- Abstract
- Nach einer kurzen Darstellung der Entwicklung der Suchdienste wird das Suchretrieval von AltaVista näher beschrieben. Es werden Kriterien für die Beurteilung der Suchdienste festgelegt. Danach folgt die Beschreibung der Möglichkeiten der einzelnen Suchdienste und ihre Beurteilung. Zum Schluß wird über die Auswahl eines Suchdienstes diskutiert.

- Die moderne Kultur hat sich mit den Informations- und Computertechnologien erneut Daidalos-Flügel angelegt. Das Buch beschreibt zunächst Entwicklung und Grundlagen dieser Technologien (z.B. programmgesteuerte Computer, KI, wissensbasierte Systeme, Neuronale Netze), untersucht erkenntnistheoretische Fragen computergestützter Mathematik, Natur- und Kulturwissenschaften und entwirft eine Philosophie des Geistes, die den neuen Technologien Rechnung trägt. - Abstract
- Die Kooperation zwischen der Wissenschaft (Lehre und Forschung) und den Universitätsbibliotheken kann mit Hilfe neuer medialer Strukturen verbessert werden. Das Internet und hochschulinterne Intranets sowie eine multimediale Präsentation von Informationen bieten die Grundlage für solche Verbesserungen. Die Nutzung dieser Möglichkeiten hängt aber entscheidend davon ab, die Aufgaben und Arbeitsprozesse in Lehre und Forschung genau zu analysieren. Nur eine solche Analyse kann das Kriterium dafür abgeben, in welcher Form die Informationsobjekte der Bibliotheken (Aufsätze, Bücher, digitale Texte, Hypertexte, Multimedia-Präsentationen) am besten zugänglich gemacht werden können. Von entscheidender Bedeutung für die künftige Entwicklung wird es sein, wie virtuelle Formen von Lehre und Forschung mittels eines Interfacekonzeptes in direkten Kontakt mit den Angeboten der Bibliothek gebracht werden können. An der Universität Erfurt soll am Zentrum für Kommunikation und Infrastruktur in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Bibliothek und mit Wissenschaftlern an einer solchen Konzeption gearbeitet werden

- Abstract
- Der gegenwärtige Wandel zur Informationsgesellschaft betrifft auch die Bibliotheken. Schlagworte wie "virtuelle Bibliothek" oder "digitale Bibliothek" tauchen immer häufiger in der Bibliothekslandschaft auf. Die Bücher-Bibliotheken" werden nicht verschwinden, aber sie müssen sich der Herausforderung der Informationsgesellschaft stellen und ihre Rolle neu definieren. Wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken nehmen sich bereits seit einiger Zeit der neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien an, aber auch für die Öffentlichen Bibliotheken besteht Handlungsbedarf. Das Land Salzburg hat deshalb eine Studie mit dem Titel "Die Digitale Bibliothek" bei der Techno-Z Fachhochschule Forschung und Entwicklung GmbH in Auftrag gegeben, die Strategien für die Weiterentwicklung der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken des Landes im Informationszeitalter entwickeln soll. Die Ergebnisse dieser Studie sind nicht nur für die Öffentlichen Bibliotheken im Land Salzburg von Interesse, sondern betreffen auch andere Regionen und deren Bibliothekslandschaft. Aufgrund der großen Nachfrage haben wir uns daher zu einem Sonderdruck des Heftes 15 der "Materialien zur Weiterbildung in Salzburg" mit den wichtigsten Ergebnisse der Studie entschlossen. - Die verschiedenen Methoden und Instrumente des Navigierens bzw. des Information Retrieval im Internet werden anhand von Beispielen im Überblick vorgestellt. - Abstract
- Die Entwicklung des deutschen Fernsprechbuches, das erstmals 1881 in Berlin als blaues Oktavheft mit 94 Eintragungen erschien, ist Thema dieser Arbeit. Schwerpunkt bildet die Analyse der zwischen 1901 und 1941/42 von der Oberpostdirektion Frankfurt herausgegebenen Fernsprechbücher. Durch Hinzuziehung der Sekundärliteratur wird jedoch immer der Bogen zur allgemeinen Telefonbuchentwicklung in Deutschland gespannt. Die Entwicklung von 1945 bis 1990 wurde im wesentlichen anhand der Sekundärliteratur verfolgt. Bestimmender Faktor für die Fernsprechbuchentwicklung war die fast kontinuierlich steigende Zahl der Fernsprechanschlüsse und die damit einhergehende Zunahme der zu verzeichnenden Teilnehmer. Welche Maßnahme im einzelnen ergriffen wurden, um das Fernsprechnbuch weiterhin in handlichem Format und zweckmäßiger Typographie und Anlage herausgeben zu können, wird ausführlich dargestellt. Untersucht wurde außerdem, inwieweit die Fernsprechbuchasugaben allgemeine Entwicklungen im Fernsprechwesen sowie politisches, wirtschaftliches und kulturell-gesellschaftliches Geschenen widerspiegeln

- Die Nutzung herkömmlicher OPACs durch Kinder erweist sich in der Bibliothekspraxis als problematisch. Um die festgestellten Defizite aufzuheben, hat die DBI-Expertengruppe 'Gestaltung und Nutzung von OPACs in Kinderbibliotheken' das vorliegende Pflichtenheft zur kindgerechten Gestaltung von OPACs erarbeitet. In einem einleitenden Teil wird die internationale Forschung zum Thema reflektiert. Deren Ergebnisse bilden die Grundlage des Pflichtenheftes. Das Pflichtenheft soll Bibliotheken als Arbeitsgrundlage ihrer Anforderungen bei Ausschreibungen an Softwarefirmen diesen und diese zur kindgerechten Entwicklung von OPAC-Modulen animieren
