- Abstract
- The 1st International CDS/ISIS congress was organizes by the Columbian Association of CDS/ISIS users in cooperation with the Unesco regional office in Caracas, Venezuela. Reviews the programme including a detailed description of the CDS/ISIS library automation system which has 16.000 registered users and which can be run under MS-DOS, VAS/VMS, UNIX/INTEL or Windows. Written in the C++ programming language the system's main features unclude: portability; maintainability; upward compatibility; and client-server architecture implementation. Presents the text of the conference resolution

- Abstract
- The use of multimedia technology can facilitate access to archives and special collections and, once they are digitized, they are preserved and can be reproduced easily. Describes how the library of Lund University in Sweden has provided access to some of its special collections using a VTLS Infostation, a hypermedia information access and authoring system for library automation, by creating some prototypes og inhouse multimedia products

- Abstract
- One of the most common errors in cataloguing library materials involves miscoding of the nonfiling indicator of title fields. Notes the extent of the problem and its negative effect on searching in the library's online catalogue and surveys how librarians have approached solutions to the problems. Describes how the major library automation system address this problem

- Abstract

- Abstract
- The media centre in Biberach vocational schools' centre stocks over 33.000 books and audio-visual media, serving as a school library and as a public special library on basic and advanced training. In 1991 automation was introduced to take over external cataloguing data; since then certain aspects have been adapted and automated loans introduced. In 1992 OPACs were added. Computerization has relieved much routine work; it has also opened up new work areas

- Abstract
- Contrasts early in house automation efforts, such as the development of the MARC format and bibliographic utilities, with the creation of databases by abstracting and indexing services. Concludes that today's attempts to provide unified bibliographic access to the library's entire collection must find ways to integrate this plethora of independently developed access tools

- Abstract
- 1962-65 was a period of planning and experiment after the German Librarians Conference in Darmstadt, concerned with developing bibliographic data, automatic soting symbols and international cooperation. Between 1966-69, several individual projects were completed, including analysis of interloans at Heidelberg University Library and loans automation at Karlsruhe Technische Hochschule. In 1969 cooperation began towards the networking of computerizes library activities
