Darin können Sie Bilder in hochauflösender Qualität kostenlos saugen sowie Ihre Werke frei der Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung stellen. Das Angebot richtet sich damit zum einen an den ambitionierten Hobby-Fotografen, zum anderen spricht es Agenturen, Werbetreibende und alle an, die ihre Bilder veröffentlichen oder präsentieren wollen. Ab Januar 2005 berücksichtigt der Dienst auch professionelle Fotografen, die über ein Abrechnungssystem Bilder einzeln verkaufen oder vermarkten wollen.

- Einer der faszinierendsten Aspekte der menschlichen visuellen Wahrnehmung ist die Fähigkeit, die Bilder der beiden Augen zu einem einheitlichen, räumlichen Wahrnehmungseindruck zu verschmelzen - einem Eindruck, bei dem Gegenstände sich plastisch von ihrem Hintergrund "abheben". Diese scheinbar mühelose Leistung erfordert ein einwandfreies visuelles Angebot in früher Kindheit. Störungen der Sehfähigkeit bei Babys und Kleinkindern, z. B. durch ungleiche Brechkraft der beiden Augen (Anisometropie), lichtundurchlässige Augenmedien aufgrund hängender Augenlider (Ptosis) oder angeborene Linsentrübung (Katarakt) können zu einem irreversiblen Verlust der Sehkraft auf einem oder beiden Augen führen. Fachleute sprechen in diesem Fall von Amblyopie, was soviel bedeutet wie "dumpfes Sehen"

- "Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) richtet ein zweites "Leistungszentrum für Forschungsinformation" in Oldenburg ein. Das Zentrum am Informatikinstitut OFFIS beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wie elektronische Lernmaterialien, Musikdateien, Grafiken und andere nicht auf Text basierende elektronisch vorliegende Dokumente in wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken angemessen verarbeitet werden können. Damit sie verfügbar bleiben und nicht "für alle Zeit" verloren gehen, erarbeitete das Oldenburger Informatikinstitut OFFIS zusammen mit den Universitäten Braunschweig und Bonn, der Technischen Informationsbibliothek Hannover und der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek ein Konzept zum Aufbau eines Leistungszentrums für Forschungsinformationen. Der Entwurf wurde im Jahr 2004 der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) vorgestellt. Das mit "Probado" betitelte Konzept überzeugte die DFG, sodass sie dem Konsortium unter der Federführung von OFFIS jetzt den Zuschlag erteilte. Im Leistungszentrum werden innerhalb der nächsten fünf Jahre Werkzeuge und Systeme sowie Verfahren und Abläufe entwickelt, die es wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken erlauben, mit nicht-textuellen Dokumenten genau so selbstverständlich umzugehen wie heute mit Büchern oder Zeitschriften. In der ersten Phase werden Musik, 3D-Computergrafiken und multimediale Lernmaterialien berücksichtigt. Später sollen weitere Dokumententypen hinzukommen, beispielsweise Bilder oder Filme."

- Abstract
- The popularity of digital images is rapidly increasing due to improving digital imaging technologies and convenient availability facilitated by the Internet. However, how to find user-intended images from the Internet is nontrivial. The main reason is that the Web images are usually not annotated using semantic descriptors. In this article, we present an effective approach to and a prototype system for image retrieval from the Internet using Web mining. The system can also serve as a Web image search engine. One of the key ideas in the approach is to extract the text information on the Web pages to semantically describe the images. The text description is then combined with other low-level image features in the image similarity assessment. Another main contribution of this work is that we apply data mining on the log of users' feedback to improve image retrieval performance in three aspects. First, the accuracy of the document space model of image representation obtained from the Web pages is improved by removing clutter and irrelevant text information. Second, to construct the user space model of users' representation of images, which is then combined with the document space model to eliminate mismatch between the page author's expression and the user's understanding and expectation. Third, to discover the relationship between low-level and high-level features, which is extremely useful for assigning the low-level features' weights in similarity assessment
