- Abstract
- Für eine Disseration wurden 40 Führungspersönlichkeiten bedeutender Archive und Bibliotheken nach der zukünftigen Entwicklung der Bibliographie befragt. Die Erhebung zu der Studie wurde innerhalb eines Jahres zwischen 2005 und 2006 in vier Runden nach der Delphi-Technik in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz durchgeführt. Durch ein Interview, das Fragen aus betrieblichen, gesellschaftlichen und wissenschaftlichen Bereichen beinhaltete, wurden Prognosen ermittelt, die in drei weiteren Befragungsrunden nochmals mittels dargestellter Szenarien hinter fragt wurden. Erkundet wurde durch diese fokussierende Untersuchung die Entwicklung der bibliographischen Information - vom Schriftenverzeichnis zum Informationsraum - für die germanistische Applikation. Ziel der Studie ist es, anhand der Prognosen von Experten zu klären, ob Bibliographien in Zeiten "Digitaler", "Elektronischer" bzw. "Virtueller Bibliotheken" auch zukünftig einem zeitgemäßen Anspruch im Hinblick auf Informationsbedarf, -nutzen und -wert genügen können, und wie sich deren Zukunft gestalten wird. In Form eines Realisierungskonzepts wird beschrieben, wie sich den Experten zufolge bibliographische Daten in einem Prozess, hin zu mediographischen Informationen, befinden. Verdeutlicht wird die Zukunft der Bibliographien in Form von Literaturportalen bzw. Informationsräumen, die möglicherweise die Gestalt einer Mediographie oder Wikigraphie annehmen werden. Wie diese Verzeichnisse konzipiert sein sollten, wird auf Grund der Befragungsergebnisse als Szenarienvarianten durch ein theoretisches Modell beschrieben.

- Unsere Medienwelt ist vom Nebeneinander verschiedener Ausgabeformen derselben Inhalte geprägt. Es herrscht jedoch Mangel an Untersuchungen, welche die "usability" von Printmedien mit der von Online-Medien direkt vergleichen. Im Rahmen eines Projektseminars am Institut fürBibliothekswissenschaft der Humboldt- Universität Berlin wurde die Usability von gedruckten und von Online-Informationsmitteln anhand heuristischer Kriterien verglichen. Als Benutzungsaspekte bündelndes und messbares Kriterium wurde der Zeitbedarf zur Beantwortung einfacher Testaufgaben ermittelt, die sowohl anhand der Print- als auch anhand der Online-Version je eines Versandhauskatalogs und eines Vorlesungsverzeichnisses zu beantworten waren. Die Prognosen sowie die Ergebnisse dreier Gruppen (Bibliothekswissenschaft-Studenten, Informatik-Studenten und Laien) wurden verglichen. Der Zeitbedarf für die Nutzung der Printmedien wurde von den Bibliothekswissenschaft- und Informatik-Studenten zu hoch prognostiziert, für Online-Medien zu niedrig. Der tatsächliche Zeitbedarf bewegte sich in ähnlicher Größenordnung bei beiden Versionen des Vorlesungsverzeichnisses. Bei der Nutzung des Versandhauskatalogs hingegen war der Zeitbedarf online doppelt so hoch wie beim Printmedium. Zusätzlich war bei Nutzung der Online-Version die Hälfte der Antworten falsch. Der Grad an subjektiver Unsicherheit über die Richtigkeit der Antworten wurde, damit übereinstimmend, bei der Online-Version deutlich höher eingeschätzt als beim Printmedium. Die Testergebnisse derdrei Gruppen unterschieden sich beim Versandhauskatalog nur wenig. Die Ergebnisse werden als Hinweis auf schlechten Entwicklungsstand der Usability von Online-Medien gedeutet. Die Usabilityvon konventionellen Medien scheint von "computernahen" Nutzern unterschätzt zu werden. Bei der Nutzung von Online-Medien wird in derLiteratur oft hohe subjektive Unsicherheit über die Angemessenheit oder Richtigkeit der Suchresultate berichtet, die hier bestätigt wird und zugleich mit einem hohen Anteil objektiv falscher Antworten korrespondiert. Es wird dafür plädiert in die Usability-Forschung konventionelle Medien einzubeziehen und stärker interdisziplinär vorzugehen.

- Mit insgesamt sechs halbjährlichen Faktenberichten, ergänzt durch jährliche Trendberichte, analysieren NFO Infratest Bereich Information und Dokumentation, München und das Institute for Information Economics, Hattingen, im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Technologie bis zum Jahr 2003 den Entwicklungsstand der Informationswirtschaft und seiner Teilmärkte in Deutschland im weltweiten Vergleich. Der vierte Faktenbericht ist eine internationale Benchmarking-Studie, die die deutsche Informationswirtschaft im Vergleich zu Europa, USA und Japan beschreibt. Es werden verlässliche und aktuelle Daten zurMarktentwicklung ermittelt und über mehrere Jahre fortgeschrieben. 26 Prozent der Daten enthalten Prognosen bis 2010, 41 Prozent werden zusätzlich in Zeitreihen (1999 bis 2005) dargestellt die wichtigsten Daten werden in Form von 436 Charts visualisiert. Der Trendbericht ergänzt diese Darstellung durch eine Befragung deutscher Experten, die ein differenziertes und umfassendes Meinungs- und Stimmungsbild der Informationswirtschaft zu den für sie zentralen Fragen ergeben und auf bevorstehende Entwicklungen in der Informationswirtschaft aufmerksam machen. DerArtikel fasst die wesentlichen Ergebnisse des 4. Faktenberichts und 2. Trendberichts zusammen. - Abstract
- Alle anderthalb Jahre verdoppelt sich die Leistung bei gleich bleibendem Preis. Dieses Regel, die als Moore'sches Gesetz bekannt geworden ist, regiert die Entwicklung der Computer seit mehr als vierzig Jahren. Nach physikalisch wohlbegründeten Prognosen nähert sich das Gesetz den Grenzen seiner Gültigkeit; aber nichtsdestotrotz geht es in der Computertechnik immer noch äußerst lebhaft zu. Wo die Elektronen mit der anwachsenden Schaltgeschwindigkeit der Mikrochips nicht mehr Schritt halten können, übernimmt Licht ihre Aufgabe (S. 94). Wo sie auf langen Datenrennbahnen innerhalb des Mikroprozessors derart heiß laufen, dass der Chip zu schmelzen droht, führen die Designer das Prinzip der kurzen Wege ein: Statt eines »Zentralbüros« sitzen deren zwei oder mehr auf demselben Siliziumplättchen und arbeiten einander möglichst reibungslos in die Hände (S 90). Und am oberen Ende der Leistungsskala lebt man von den Errungenschaften von gestern - große technische Durchbrüche sind nicht zu vermeIden -, aber auf großen Fuß: Moores Gesetz gilt für die Supercomputer derWelt in verschärfter Form, denn schon nach einem statt nach anderthalb Jahren pflegt der dann schnellste Computer der WeIt die doppelte Leistung des Vorjahressiegers zu erbringen.

- Abstract
- Am 26. Januar startet "Zeitgeschichte-online" - ein neues Internetportal mit einem umfangreichen Informationsangebot für die zeithistorische Forschung. Das Portal erschließt zeithistorische Internet-Ressourcen, enthält Tagungsberichte, Rezensionen sowie redaktionell betreute Themenangebote und ermöglicht eine komfortable Katalog- und Datenbanksuche. Teil des Portals ist außerdem die neue Fachzeitschrift "Zeithistorische Forschungen/Studies in Contemporary History". Sie erscheint in zwei Ausgaben: einer Online-Version und einer parallelen Druckausgabe (beim Verlag Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, http://www.v-r.de). Das Fachportal "Zeitgeschichte-online" ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Zentrums für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam und der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Es ist zugleich als ein Modul des geschichtswissenschaftlichen Portals "Clio-online" konzipiert (http://www.clioonline.de) und kooperiert eng mit dem Informationsdienst "H-Soz-u-Kult" (http://hsozkult.geschichte.hu-berlin.de). Das Projekt wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefördert. Ausführlichere Projektinformationen gibt es unter http://www.zeitgeschichte-online.de.
