    Abstract
    Die Miniaturisierung der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik dient der Verbesserung unserer Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen. Der Einsatz von technischen Systemen muss transparent und unter Wahrung des Selbstbestimmungsrechts der Betroffenen erfolgen. Die Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik entwickelt sich permanent weiter: Die Rechenleistung und Vernetzungsdichte der Systeme steigt, die Übertragungsbandbreite und Speicherkapazität nimmt zu und die Komponenten werden immer kleiner. Besonders die Miniaturisierung hat zu Visionen über neue Einsatzfelder für IT-Systeme geführt. Die mit den Schlagworten "Pervasive Computing", "Ubiquitous Computing" und "Ambient Intelligence" verbundenen Konzepte führen zu miniaturisierten IT-Systemen, die unsere Alltagswelt durchdringen, ohne das sie noch als "Computer" erkannt werden. Trends, die diese Entwicklung vorantreiben, sind etwa - leistungsfähigere, kleinere Prozessoren und Speicherbausteine, - höhere Integration der Netze (UMTS, WiMax, GSM, WLAN, Bluetooth) mit neuen Diensten etwa zur spontanen Vernetzung von IT-Systemen, sowie - neue Sensoren, langlebige und sehr kleine Batterien. Auch sollen durch die Forschung in der Nanotechnologie neue Produkte - etwa in der Medizin - entwickelt werden, die durch eindeutige Kennungen in den Nano-Partikeln spätere Rückverfolgung oder Identifizierung der "Träger" ermöglichen könnten. Bereits heute wird durch neue IT-Systeme der Einsatz von Informationstechnik weitgehend unsichtbar, z. B. wenn Mikroprozessoren in Alltagsgegenstände integriert sind. Mit der Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) rückt die Vision dieser allgegenwärtigen Datenverarbeitung näher. Dies bringt neue Gefahren für die Persönlichkeitsrechte der Bürgerinnen und Bürger mit sich. Daher sind Konzepte zum Schutz der Privatsphäre gefragt, die bereits beim Systementwurf greifen und nicht erst nachträglich "aufgepfropft" werden. Nachträglicher Datenschutz ist nicht nur weniger effektiv, sondern auch teuerer als eingebauter (System-) Datenschutz.

    Abstract
    OSIRIS und ELIB sind von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) und dem Niedersächsischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur (MWK) geförderte Projekte an der Universität Osnabrück. Sie beschäftigen sich mit intuitiv-natürlichsprachlichen Retrievalsystemen und mit Fragen der Indexierung großer Volltexdatenbanken in dieser Technik. Die Entwicklungen haben dazu geführt, daß an sich aufwendige und komplexe Verfahren der syntaktisch-semantischen Analyse und Bewertung von textuellen Phrasen in relationale Datenbanken für Massendaten eingebettet werden konnten und nun im Produktionsbetrieb eingesetzt werden können

    Abstract
    Die Agrarproduktion wird in sehr komplexer Weise durch einen steten Wandel ihrer ökono-mischen und ökologischen Rahmenbedingungen beeinflusst. Aus diesem Prozess resultieren ständig neue Anforderungen an die Agrarforschung. Bei den Forschungs- und Untersuchungsarbeiten in der Pflanzen- und Tierproduktion, im Gartenbau und im Forstwesen nimmt dabei das Experiment eine zentrale Stelle ein. Der derzeitige Stand der Dokumentation und Präsentation von Ergebnissen der Versuchstätigkeit ist gekennzeichnet durch: - Die Existenz einer Vielzahl dezentraler Pools von Versuchsberichten, - hohe Aufwendungen für deren Publizierung, in der Regel im Selbstverlag, - steigende Versandkosten, - relativ kleiner Adressatenkreis, - nur punktuell webbasierte, statische Präsentationen, - kein umfassender Austausch und damit transparente Präsentation von Versuchsresultaten, - keine strukturiert unterstützte (Datenbank-)Recherche nach bestimmten Berichten/Dokumenten/Einrichtungen/Versuchskategorien usw. Das Projekt >Versuchsberichte im Internet< (VIP) soll für Einrichtungen der Beratung, Forschung, Lehre, Praxis und Verwaltung im Agrarbereich helfen, diese Mängel zu mindern und so einen Rationalisierungseffekt auslösen. Dieses Ziel soll im Einzelnen wie folgt realisiert werden: - Input der als verteilte Informationspools in Bund und Ländern vorliegenden Versuchsberichte in eine zentrale Dokumentendatenbank bei uneingeschränkter Verfügungsgewalt und vollen Urheberrechten der beteiligten Einrichtungen; - Bereitstellung einer Online-Lösung im Internet; - Integration eines Moduls für den internetgestützten Online-Input von Dokumenten; - Gewährleistung von Datenschutz; - Unterstützung des Versuchswesens in Bund und Ländern mit dem Ziel, Rationalisierungseffekte z. B. hinsichtlich der Versuchsplanung, Dokumentations- und Kommunikationsaufwendungen, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, e-commerce zu erreichen. Über diese Funktionen hinaus werden in das Projekt weitere Informationspools, wie Adressen, bibliographische und wissenschaftliche Informationen, Diskussionslisten, Maps u. a. integriert. Entsprechend der föderalen Struktur der Bundesrepublik steht eine Beteiligung am Projekt allen interessierten Einrichtungen in Bund und Ländern offen

    Abstract
    Die Literatur- und Informationsbeschaffung der aktuellen Studierendengeneration erfolgt heute auf anderen Wegen als noch vor 10 Jahren. Ob im privaten Umfeld MyTube für Videoangebote im Internet, Google Earth für geographische Orientierungen, oder Wikipedia anstelle des Brockhaus, der Informationseinstieg läuft nicht mehr in Form der Konsultation eines Lehrbuchs oder Nachschlagewerkes aus der Bibliothek: "Benutzer warten heute nicht mehr darauf, die Grundsätze des Umgangs mit Informationen in der Bibliothek neu erklärt zu bekommen; hier sind neue, weniger "verschulte" Kommunikationswege gefragt." Unaufhaltsam ergreift der Web 2.0-Hype auch vom Studienalltag Besitz und führt zum Umbau etablierter Informations- und Kommunikationswege. Die neue Internetgemeinde setzt anstelle von medialer Berieselung auf aktives Mitmachen. Zum "Social Networking" gehört, dass "Siegfried Sorglos" seine Urlaubsfotos, seine Handy-Nummer, seine Hobbies für Freunde ins Netz stellt. Der Datenschutz zur Wahrung der Privatsphäre hat ausgedient. Informationen, auch über Persönliches, sind Public Domain. Man gruschelt Freunde und kommuniziert über SMS, ICQ oder Skype Termine und Verabredungen.

    Abstract
    Zwei Themen finden immer mehr Aufmerksamkeit: Einerseits der Klimawandel, andererseits das Grundeinkommen bzw. Bürgergeld. Auf den ersten Blick oft berührungslos zueinander, sind sie näher betrachtet ökologischer und sozialer Ausdruck einer existenziellen Entwicklungskrise moderner Gesellschaften. Der Klimawandel hat naturwissenschaftlich beobachtbare Folgen, seine Ursachen liegen jedoch in Wirtschaft, Gesellschaft und Kultur. Um ökologische Katastrophen möglichst ein-zuschränken braucht es technische, zugleich jedoch soziale Innovationen. Es braucht neue soziale Ordnungen, die eine Synthese von Freiheit und Effektivität mit Solidarität und ganzheitlicher Lebensqualität ermöglichen.

    Abstract
    Die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz wird künftig zu den Kernaufgaben der Bibliotheken gehören müssen. Dies ist auch eines der Hauptarbeitsfelder des Rezensenten, der aus eigener Praxis sieht, welche Schwierigkeiten sich hierbei finden: Viele Klienten erkennen ihren eigenen Informationsbedarf nicht, können ein fachliches nicht von einem informatorischen Problem trennen, sind nicht in der Lage, für ihr spezifisches Problem potenzielle Informationsquellen zu finden und haben vor allem Probleme, die Verbindung zwischen elektronischer und gedruckter WeIt zu schaffen, die somit praktisch unverbunden nebeneinander existieren (vgl. Rainer Strzolka: Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz als Informationsdienstleistung? Vortrag, FH Köln, Fakultät für Informations- und Kommunikationswissenschaften, Institut für Informationswissenschaft, am 31. Oktober 2003). Der Brückenschlag zwischen diesen beiden Welten gehört zu den Aufgaben professioneller Informationsvermittler, die nicht nur in der Digitalwelt firm sein müssen, aber auch dort. Nicht zuletzt müssen die gefundenen Informationen ergebnisorientiert genutzt und kritisch bewertet werden und die gefundenen Antworten zur Problemlösung eingesetzt werden. Die Informationslandschaft ist mit ihren verschiedenen Wissensmarktplätzen und Informationsräumen inzwischen so komplex geworden, dass eine kleine Handreichung dazu geeignet erscheint, vor allem die eigene Position des Informationsvermittlers zu überdenken. Zudem ist die aktive Informationsvermittlung noch ein dürres Feld in Deutschland. Die vorliegende kleine Erfahrungsstudie schickt sich an, dies zu ändern. Der Ansatz geht davon aus, dass jeder Vermittler von Medienkompetenz Lehrer wie Lernender zugleich ist; die Anlage ist wie bei allen BibSpider-Publikationen international ausgerichtet. Der Band ist komplett zweisprachig und versammelt Erfahrungsberichte aus der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, den USA und Südafrika, die eher als Ansatz zur Bewusstseinsbildung denn als Arbeitsanleitung gedacht sind. Eingeleitet wird der Band von einer terminologischen Herleitung des Begriffs aus dem Angelsächsischen und den verschiedenen Bedeutungsebenen, die durch unterschiedliche Bildungs- und Informationskulturen bedingt sind. Angerissen werden verschiedene Arbeitsgebiete und -erfahrungen.
