- Abstract
- Eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben als Fachreferent*in ist die inhaltliche Erschließung der neuerworbenen Literatur, sowie die Begutachtung und Auswahl der neu erschienenen Werke in den jeweiligen Fachgebieten hinsichtlich der Relevanz für die eigenen Sammlungen gemäß dem Sammlungsprofil der TU Wien Bibliothek. Im Zuge der Corona-Krise wurde die herkömmliche Arbeitsweise in der Sacherschließung beeinträchtigt, und es haben sich neue Herausforderungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten ergeben. Neben der fehlenden Autopsie der Literatur leidet auch die Sichtung und Erwerbung neuer Literatur unter der physischen Abwesenheit vom Arbeitsplatz bzw. der entsprechenden technischen Infrastruktur. Auch der persönliche Austausch mit den Kolleg*innen wurde deutlich erschwert. Neben den Schwierigkeiten wurden aber auch die neuen Handlungsoptionen auf beruflicher und individueller Ebene positiv gesehen. In dem Artikel werden unsere individuellen Erfahrungen an der TU Wien Bibliothek sowie Ausblicke in die Zukunft wiedergegeben.

- Abstract
- Der Artikel fasst Komponenten für einen mehrsprachigen Zugang in digitalen Bibliotheken zusammen. Dabei wird der Fokus auf Bibliotheken für das digitale Kulturerbe gelegt. Eine Analyse aktueller (existierender) Informationssysteme im sogenannten GLAM-Bereich (Galerien, Bibliotheken, Archive, Museen) beschreibt angewandte Lösungen für die Recherche (Suchen und Blättern) von und die Interaktion mit mehrsprachigen Inhalten. Europeana, die europäische digitale Bibliothek für Kulturerbe, wird als Fallbeispiel hervorgehoben und es werden beispielhaft Interaktionsszenarios für die mehrsprachige Recherche vorgestellt. Die Herausforderungen in der Implementierung von Komponenten für den mehrsprachigen Informationszugang sowie Empfehlungen für den verbesserten Einsatz werden vorgestellt und diskutiert.

- Abstract
- EuropeanaLocal war ein dreijähriges Best-Practice-Netzwerk-Projekt der EU mit dem Ziel, nachhaltige Aggregatoreninfrastrukturen für das Einbringen von lokalen und regionalen Inhalten in die europäische digitale Bibliothek Europeana aufzubauen. Die Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin (ZLB) entwickelte als deutscher Partner im Netzwerk den Aggregator EuropeanaLocal-Deutschland, der bis zum Mai 2011 über 90.000 digitale Objekte von 29 Archiven, Bibliotheken, Museen und audiovisuellen Archiven für die Europeana bereitstellte. Am 30. Mai 2011 endete das EU-Projekt, was Anlass für diese Rückschau ist.

- Abstract
- Schon zur Wende ins 20. Jahrhundert zweifelte der belgische Privatgelehrte Paul Otlet an der Zukunft des Buches und der Bibliothek. Statt dessen begann er damit, eine Dokumentation und Neuorganisation des Weltwissens anzulegen, und mittels eines Karteikartensystems (Répertoire Bibliographique Universel) zu vernetzen. Dieses Projekt eines flexiblen, abfrageorientierten Wissensbestandes in einem 'Hypermedium' (Otlet) besetzte jene technologische Leerstelle, die inzwischen eine die bibliothekarische Epoche aufsprengende neue Wissenskultur der digitalen Medialität produziert hat.

- Abstract
- Europeana ist eine Initiative der Europäischen Kommission, die 2005 den Aufbau einer "Europäischen digitalen Bibliothek" als Teil ihrer i2010 Agenda ankündigte. Europeana soll ein gemeinsamer multilingualer Zugangspunkt zu Europas digitalem Kulturerbe und gleichzeitig mehr als "nur" eine digitale Bibliothek werden: eine offene Schnittstelle (API) für Wissenschaftsanwendungen, die ein Netzwerk von Objektsurrogaren darstellt, die semantikbasiertes Objektretrieval und - verwendung ermöglichen. Einerseits ist die semantische Kontextualisierung der digitalen Objekte eine unabdingbare Voraussetzung für effektives Information Retrieval, da aufgrund der Beschaffenheit der Öbjekte (bildlich, multimedial) deskriptive Metadaten meist nicht ausreichen, auf der anderen Seite bildet sie die Grundlage für neues Wissen. Kern geisteswissenschaftlicher Arbeit ist immer schon die Reaggregation und Interpretation kultureller Artefakte gewesen und Europeana ermöglicht nun mit (teil-)automatisierbaren, semantikbasierten Öperationen über große kulturelle Quellcorpora völlig neue Perspektiven für die digital humanities. Folglich hat Europeans das Potenzial eine Schlüsselressource der Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften und damit Teil deren zukünftiger digitaler Arbeitsumgebungen zu werden.

- Abstract
- Welche Rolle spielt die Bibliothek in Zeiten der Digitalisierung? Seit jeher unverzichtbare Quellen der Forschung, übernehmen Bibliotheken heute vielfältige neue Aufgaben.
