- Abstract
- Provides a quick overview of the historical development of hypertext/hypermedia, and the role of hypermedia in today's dynamic information environment. Actual R&D examples in both PROJECT EMPEROR-1, specifically its hypermedia R&D component experimented on all major delivery system platforms, is discussed and demonstrated, and new opportunities for libraries in the 1990s are further elaborated.

Discusses hypermedia's place in today's dynamic information environment, the potential problem with hypertext/hypermedia systems, and the effect of new technological developments on hypermedia application. Describes PROJECT EMPEROR-I, a hypermedia R&D project and discusses the potential of this type of application for librarians, information professionals, and education media specialists.
