Wie sie selbst in der Danksagung feststellen, ist das Buch "a collaborative work of the information behavior community" (S. xvii), wobei die editorische Leistung vor allem darin lag, 85 Beitragende aus zehn Ländern zu koordinieren bzw. zur Abfassung von 72 Artikeln von jeweils ähnlicher Länge (bzw. Knappheit und Kürze), Gestaltung und Lesbarkeit zu veranlassen. Unter diesen 85 Beitragenden ist im übrigen alles versammelt, was in dieser Teildisziplin Rang und Namen hat, mit Ausnahme der leider bereits verstorbenen Soziologin Elfreda A. Chatman, einer der einflussreichsten Theoretikerinnen im Bereich des Informationsverhaltens, deren Andenken das Buch auch gewidmet ist.

Abstract

Ziel aller professioneller Aktivitäten der in der DGI organisierten Informationsfachleute ist es, bedarfsgerecht die Verfügbarkeit von Informationen sicher zu stellen. Als Motto der 60.Jahrestagung und 30. Online-Tagung der DGI bietet diese Zielsetzung den Rahmen für ein vielseitiges Programm, das Information Professionals aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln interessante Einblicke in informationswissenschaftliche Forschung, praktische Anwendungen, das Berufsfeld, die Ausbildungssituation und geplante Projekte bietet. Dabei begleiten uns die zentralen Fragen, unter welchen Bedingungen eine Information für wen heute verfügbar ist, wie sich die Verfügbarkeit auch bei sich wandelnden Technologien und Rezeptionsgewohnheiten für die Zukunft sichern lässt und die alte, doch immer wieder neue Frage nach der 'Dokumentationswürdigkeit' aufgrund von Qualität oder betrieblichen Notwendigkeiten und juristischen Regelungen. Der Band vereinigt die Textfassungen der Beiträge, die durch das Progammkomitee angenommen worden sind, dazu gehören u.a. die suche nach Bildern oder Patenten mit Suchmaschinen, Competitive Intelligence, Sicherung von Primärdaten, Langfristige Nutzbarkeit und Standardisierung, Qualitätskriterien, automatische und intellektuelle Erschließung, Ontologien oder Erfahrungen mit dem Einsatz von Wikis.

Auch das vorliegende Werk von Anna-Katharina Weilenmann ordnet sich in diese Kategorie von Internet-Führern ein. Auf rund 200 Seiten werden Einstiege in verschiedenste Themen der Wissenschaft angeboten. Die Bandbreite der Sachgebiete ist dementsprechend groß und orientiert sich an der Wissenschaft: - Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft - Philosophie und Psychologie, Religion / Theologie - Sozialwissenschaften, Soziologie, Politik - Wirtschaft, Recht - Erziehung, Ethnologie, Sprache, Literaturwissenschaft - Mathematik, Physik, Chemie, Biologie - Technik - Medizin - Landwirtschaft, Informatik - Kunst, Architektur, Musik, Theater, Film - Sport - Geschichte Geographie, Reisen Bei der Auswahl der einzelnen Web-Quellen ließ sich die Autorin von Qualitätskriterien wie Alter der Webseite, der Zuverlässigkeit der Inhalte, der Aktualität aber auch von der Art der Trägerschaft leiten. Webseiten mit einem akademischen Hintergrund standen daher im Vordergrund, waren aber nicht ausschließlich vertreten. So finden sich auch Webseiten kommerzieller Anbieter (z.B. Scopus von Elsevier) oder auch anderer öffentlicher, nicht-akademischer Institutionen (wie der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek mit Ariadne) im Webseiten-Verzeichnis. Rund 200 deutsch- und englischsprachige Einträge werden im Buch genauer beschrieben, mit Informationen zum Inhalt des Angebots, der Urheberschaft und Angabe möglicher Kosten. Auch weiterführende Links werden häufig angeführt. Ein einführendes Kapitel zur Informationsrecherche rundet dieses gelungene Buch ab.

Dabei ist der Titel ein wenig irreführend, den der Schwerpunkt des Buches liegt nicht auf "Bibliotheken", sondern auf "Web 2.0". Kaiser gibt einen guten Überblick über die technischen Möglichkeiten, die unter"Web 2.0" zusammengefasst sind, und stellt Weblogs, RSS-Feeds, Videos, Podcasts und Wikis in einer Form vor, von der sowohl Anfängerinnen als auch Personen mit Grundkenntnissen profitieren können. Bei jedem dieser Medien geht Kaiser sowohl auf die dahinter stehende Technik und Implementierung als auch auf wichtige Grundregeln der Benützung bei der Inhaltserstellung ein (z.B. 15 Tipps für attraktive Blogangebote, oder was beim Drehen eines Videos beachtet werden sollte) und ergänzt jedes Kapitel durch ein Interview, in dem ein Experte zum jeweiligen Medium Erfahrungen, Anregungen oder wichtige Überlegungen einbringt. Die Vorstellung der Web 2.0-Technologien ist gelungen, verständlich, und für Bibliotheken, die in dieser Hinsicht aktiv werden wollen, auch sehr hilfreich; nicht ganz so erfolgreich ist das Buch leider dabei, die Relevanz dieser Technologien für Bibliotheken darzustellen.

Das erste Kapitel, "Grundlagen des Information Retrieval", vermittelt ein Basiswissen rund um Recherchedatenbanken und ihren Einsatz, etwa wie Datenbanken gegliedert und einheitlich beschrieben werden können, wie Datensätze in Abhängigkeit der gespeicherten Informationen üblicherweise strukturiert sind, welche Arbeitsschritte eine Recherche typischerweise aufweist oder wie sich die Kosten einer Online-Recherche kategorisieren lassen. Schließlich wird auch eine knappe Marktübersicht wichtiger kommerzieller Datenbankanbieter gegeben. .Im folgenden Kapitel, "Methoden des Information Retrieval", wird das Kommandoretrieval anhand der Abfragesprache DataStarOnline (DSO), die beim Host Dialog DataStar zur Anwendung kommt, erklärt.
