    Abstract
Discusses the need for facilities for online vocabulary control and standardization of terms, codes, etc., so as to secure consistency in naming of subjects, objects, countries, languages, etc., in databases at data entry stage. Most information storage and retrieval packages for microcomputers including MicroIsis provide for online vocabulary control in formulating search expressions for information retrieval, but not at the data entry stage. VOCON.PAS is a Pascal interface program for use with MicroIsis software for (a) online selection of term(s) and/or code(s) from vocabulary control tool, such as, thesaurus, subject heading list, classification scheme, nomenclature list(s)

    Abstract
Discusses Ranganathan's holistic integrative approach and applications of analytico-methodology. Deals with databases that art mostly object-oriented, factual information bases. Defines data entity, data model and subject. Covers the organization of ides in specialized databases; a generalized subject structure model; designing specialized databases; indexes and searches and user interaction with the system

    Abstract
Newly industrialized countries in Asia are recognizing that a strong information and communication technologies infrastructure is a crucial enabling factor to aid economic growth. The slow spread of information technology use in India is identified and related to the absence of a dynamic information culture in the country. Discusses the need for a comprehensive information literacy programme in India and outlines the aims and contents of such a programme. Information literacy programmes should be an integral part of human resources development efforts to enable the country to be competitive at home and to move smoothly into the information age of the 21st century

    Abstract
Describes the OM Information Service (OMIS), which provides Web access to selected extracts from the writings and sayings of various spirutual leaders, saints, seers, mystics and scholars, with biographical sketches. Web access has been made more interesting through the provision of related images and music, and user and search interfaces have been designed for the novice user. OMIS is ported from a database originally available on CDS/ISIS. Discusses the content and structure of the CDS/ISIS database, requirements for the Web and CD-ROM versions, and system design and implementation for the media. For the CD-ROM, database access is provided using a Windows version of CDS/ISIS operating as a helper application within a Netscape browser

    Abstract
This paper describes a proposal for a new approach to thesaurus design and construction that could have significant implications for change in the way multilingual thesauri are handled and integrated with each other. The formula presented here has its origin in the work of the German Thesaurus Committee and has had input from a number of scientists and practitioners in the field. The emphasis is on the various types of relationships found among concepts, notions and universals in languages. These relationships are analysed and refined beyond the approach taken in existing thesauri. This proposal is very much at the discussion stage and the author invites the assistance of interested readers through criticisms, discussion and dialogue. Applications of the proposed thesaurus are included and the major goal of this proposal is to provide the basis for improved design and integration of multilingual thesauri
