Daneben gibt es aber bereits eine Fülle von strukturierten Informationsangeboten, aufbereiteten Listen und Sammelstellen, die als Clearinghouse, Subject Gateway, Subject Tree oder Resource Pages bezeichnet werden. Solche intellektuell erstellten Übersichten geben in der Regel bereits Hinweise zu Inhalt und fachlichem Niveau der Quelle.     This video explores the changes in the way we find, store, create, critique, and share information. This video was created as a conversation starter, and works especially well when brainstorming with people about the near future and the skills needed in order to harness, evaluate, and create information effectively. Ein sehr schöner Kurzfilm von Michael Wesch, dem wir auch den Beitrag zu Web 2.0 (The Machine is Us/ing Us) verdanken (vor einiger Zeit hier besprochen), thematisiert die Veränderung der Handhabung von Information (insbesondere die Strukturierung und Ordnung, aber auch die Generierung und Speicherung), die auf ihre digitale Gestalt zurückzuführen ist. Kernaussage: Da die Informationen keine physikalischen Beschränkungen mehr unterworfen sind, wird die Ordnung der Informationen vielfältiger, flexibler und für jedermann einfacher zugänglich.

    Abstract
    Das Internet und besonders das Web 2.0 sind ein Segen für die Meinungsfreiheit, so heißt es: Endlich können alle bestimmen, worüber diskutiert wird - nicht nur wenige Experten, Top-Journalisten und wortgewaltige Autoren, die das Meinungsmonopol für sich beanspruchen. Doch was haben wir uns da eingehandelt? Forumsbeiträge, die vor Dummheit und falschen Fakten strotzen, und an Idiotie kaum zu überbietende Videoclips bei YouTube. Es kommt noch schlimmer: - Politische Splitterparteien und verschrobene Wirrköpfe maskieren sich immer häufiger als harmlose Blogger, um demokratiefeindliche Hetzkampagnen zu verbreiten. Betroffene können sich kaum dagegen wehren. - Unternehmen betreiben auf subtile Weise "virales Marketing", um ihre Produkte von vermeintlich begeisterten Kunden empfehlen zu lassen. - Clevere Lobbyisten mischen sich unter falscher Identität in Diskussionen ein, um ihre fragwürdigen Interessen durchzusetzen. Wir befinden uns auf einem gefährlichen Irrweg, sagt Andrew Keen: Wo Halbwissen und blanke Lügen herrschen statt verlässlicher Information, da fehlt auch die Basis für vernünftige und tragfähige politische Entscheidungen, da ist unsere Kultur in ihren Grundfesten erschüttert. Ein scharf formuliertes Plädoyer gegen die absurden Auswüchse der großen Verdummungsmaschine, die sich Internet nennt.

Aber wie das so ist mit dem Müll: Für die einen ist es Abfall, andere suchen und finden meistens etwas, das sich zur Wiederverwer- tung eignet. Das muss Andrew Keen entgangen sein, obwohl der IT-Unternehmer (audiocafe.com), sich in der Materie auskennt. Aber das hindert ihn nicht, sich mit geradezu pietistischem Eifer wider den neu-bösen Feind zu wenden: den Blogger.     Abstract
    Die kooperative Führung der Schlagwortnormdatei und die Gewährleistung der Qualität der in ihr enthaltenen Daten sind mit einem enormen Aufwand verbunden, der durch den Einsatz der EDV und geeignete Organisationsstrukturen nur geringfügig reduziert werden kann. Die Erstellung der SWD-Normdatensätze bleibt aufgrund der Vielzahl der den Ansetzungsformen beizufügenden Zusatzinformationen wie Codes, Notationen und Relationen relativ zeitintensiv. Diese lassen jedoch auch die SWD besonders wertvoll für die Recherche werden, da sie die Wiederauffindbarkeit der Daten unterstützen. Während die Schlagwortsuche in deutschen OPACs weit verbreitet ist, haben Codes, Notationen und Relationen bisher nur geringfügig Eingang in den OPAC gefunden. Bei einer Untersuchung von 111 Online-Katalogen wurde festgestellt, dass kein einziger OPAC all die Möglichkeiten nutzt, die mit der SWD gegeben sind. Am meisten werden noch Synonyme und - in geringerem Maße - hierarchische und assoziative Relationen zur Verbesserung des Recalls und zur Benutzerführung eingesetzt. Codes und Notationen finden nur vereinzelt Anwendung.

    Abstract
    Was mag das Akronym GND bedeuten? Lassen wir der Fantasie freien Lauf, kommen wir auf Auflösungen wie Golfer nehmen Datteln, Gerne noch Details, Glück nach Dauerstress, Größter Nutzen Deutschlands und vieles mehr. Eine ernsthaftere Recherche führt zur Gesamtnutzungsdauer oder auf einen Sachverhalt der Elektrotechnik: Die von einer Stromquelle bereitgestellte Spannung bezieht sich stets auf ein Grundniveau. Dieses Grundniveau wird auf Deutsch als Masse, im Englischen aber als ground oder GND bezeichnet. Techniker kennen das Schaltzeichen dafür: Für den informationswissenschaftlichen Bereich steht dagegen GND für die Gemeinsame Normdatei. Auch sie hat (seit 2020) ein Zeichen. Da die Gemeinsame Normdatei (im weiteren Text nur noch GND) auch ein Instrument der Inhaltserschließung ist, beeinflussen ihre Stärken und Schwächen die Qualität der Inhaltserschließung. Deshalb widmet sich dieser Artikel der Qualitätssicherung in der GND.
