- Abstract
- Mit dem Aufkommen der Wissensgesellschaft wird Information zum Wirtschaftsgut. Digitale Wirtschaftsgüter - Content wie Software - werden entweder selbst vermarktet (z.B. bei kommerziellen Informationsdiensten) oder dienen als Lockangebote für Werbung (z.B. bei Suchmaschinen mit "sponsored links"). Aufgrund der Besonderheiten des vertriebenen Produkts unterscheiden sich die Wettbewerbsstrategien von Informationsanbietern von denen nicht-digitaler Güter. Zu beachten ist zudem der "illegale" Informationsmarkt (Schwarzkopien). Im Zentrum des Buches steht zwar eine ökonomische Analyse des Informationsmarktes, behandelt werden aber auch Informationssoziologie und -politologie, Informationsrecht sowie Informationsethik.

- Abstract
- Die Panikmache geht weiter: Unisono fordern Politiker und Industrie, dass Schüler mit allerlei Technik überhäuft werden, um den Anschluss ans digitale Zeitalter nicht zu verpassen. Diese Digitalisierung der Bildung erfolgt jedoch fast nur technologie- und ökonomiegetrieben. Pädagogische Konzepte? Fehlanzeige! Die Autoren üben nicht nur Kritik an dieser Art von Digitalisierung, sondern nehmen in dieser Neuauflage gezielt auch die wirtschaftlichen Verflechtungen aufs Korn, die zwischen IT-Industrie und Bildungspolitik bestehen. Sie greifen zentrale Mythen der Digital-Befürworter an und entlarven die Anstrengungen für eine »Lernfabrik 4.0«, in der Computer allmählich Lehrer ersetzen sollen. Die Autoren danken insbesondere auch der FDP für ihr inspirierendes Wahlplakat »Digital first. Bedenken second«. Und zeigen, dass gerade das Gegenteil richtig ist.

- Alternative Fakten? Wie konnte es passieren, dass Gerücht, Lüge, Fakt und Wahrheit ununterscheidbar wurden? Robert Feustel untersucht die Wissensgeschichte von der Industrialisierung bis zur Digitalisierung und zeigt, wie im sogenannten Informationszeitalter ebenjene "Information" zum Heiligen Geist mutierte und den Unterschied zwischen Wahrheit und Lüge einebnet: Hauptsache sie zirkulieren möglichst reibungslos und in Echtzeit. Schließlich gerät auch das Bild des Menschen in den Sog der Digitalisierung. Was unterscheidet das menschliche Denken vom prozessierenden Computer?

- Abstract
- Wenn von einer "umfassenden Aktualisierung" des 1999 im Original erschienenen populärwissenschaftlichen Taschenbuchs über die Funktionen und Arbeitsweisen des menschlichen Gehirns (BA 10/99), abgesehen einmal vom Kapitel über die Gefühle, kaum die Rede sein kann, so hat der Band der ehemaligen Wissenschaftsredakteurin der "SZ" nach wie vor Bestand als einer der wenigen "Gehirn-Titel", welcher die komplex-komplizierten neurobiologischen und -psychologischen Erkenntnisse der Hirnforschung inklusive der Möglichkeiten der neuen bildgebenden Verfahren bei der Erforschung von Entgleisungen des Gehirns (bei Depressionen, Schizophrenie, Parkinson) sowie der Entwicklungen auf den Feldern der KI und der Neuronalen Netze ohne Simplifizierungen in die Sprache von Otto Normalverbraucher verdolmetscht. Mit Glossar und Register. - Gern weiterhin empfohlen; der Vorläufer muss allerdings nicht unbedingt aus dem Bestand genommen werden.
