- Abstract
- Schon über 20 Jahre hält sich der Begriff "neue Medien" mit fortschreitendem Umfang, aber gleichbleibender Unschärfe. Dennoch kann man als Kondensationspunkt die Digitalisierung der klassisch von der EDV und untereinander getrennten Bereiche Telekommunikation und Unterhaltungselektronik und in der Folge deren multimediale Verschmelzung ausmachen. Diese immer dynamischer werdende Entwicklung bringt laufend neue Vokabeln hervor, um deren populäre Erläuterung sich nach Brehpohl (s.o.) und S. Pitzer (BA 9/95) auch dieses Lexikon bemüht. Die Auswahl ist pragmatisch und aktuell, verzichtet im Vergleich zu o.g. Brepohl auf allgemeine Begriffe der Informatik und Elektronik (Daten, Nachricht, Photonik ...), bietet dafür mehr Termini zu heutiger Technik (GPS, Soundkarte ...) und stellt Dienstleistungen und Produkte ausführlicher dar (Game Boy, CompuServe). Neben der einführenden Skizze von Pitzer, vor Brepohl.
