"Cognitive information retrieval" oder CIR (natürlich geht es auch hier nicht ohne ein weiteres Akronym ab) ist ein interdisziplinärer Forschungsbereich, der Aktivitäten aus Informationswissenschaft, Informatik, Humanwissenschaften, Kognitionswissenschaft, Mensch-Computer-Interaktion und anderen informationsbezogenen Gebieten inkludiert.
