Mashups sind Webapplikationen bzw. -seiten, die Daten und Funktionalität aus zwei oder mehr frei zugänglichen Quellen zu einem neuen Service auf einer eigenen Webseite kombinieren. Dieser Dienst bietet einen Mehrwert für die Nutzerinnen durch Zusammenführung und Verknüpfung von Informationen an einem zentralen Ort. Z.B. werden sehr häufig Karten in Standortangaben eingebunden, oder im Bibliothekskatalog werden Amazon-Buchcover oder ein Link auf Google Book Search angezeigt.
