    Abstract
During the last 5 years the Library of Congress has been conducting a pilot project to test methods for digitizing its special collections. Discusses the conversion challenges that became clear during the tests, including the difficulty of converting some materials such as rare documents, 78 rpm records, oversized maps, and earlier video images. Considers questions relating to access and costs of digitization and the problems of cataloguing and searching electronic collections
