- Abstract
- In 1997 the European Commission published its report, Public Libraries and the Information Society, which points out the impact the information society will have for the ordinary citizen. Aim of the study was to show how libraries must adapt their services to the challenges. However, a majority of Europe's 40.000 public libraries have yet to take their 1st steps towards automation. Closer cooperation amongst all types of libraries is urgently required together with adequate training. Progress must be regularly monitored
