- Abstract
- Two interviews provided the basis for this examination of the careers and contributions of Maria Teresa Sanz Briso-Montiano and Soledad Fernández-Corugedo, major figures in the development of bibliographic control in Chile. Sanz was instrumental in introducing the use of international cataloging standards; as Coordinator at the Biblioteca nacional de Chile, she reorganized technical services, promoted the use of automated library systems, and set the stage for development of a shared network. Fernández is the current coordinator of this network, Red Nacional de Información Bibliográfíca (RENIB). Significantly changing the practice of cataloging in Chile, Fernández and her staff have worked through RENIB to integrate libraries into a cooperative network, introduce standards into library processes, and create union catalogs.

- ORCID schafft mit Services wie der eindeutigen Verknüpfung von Forschenden und ihren Publikationen die Basis moderner Wissenschaftskommunikation. Das ORCID-Deutschland-Konsortium bietet eine kostenreduzierte ORCID-Premiummitgliedschaft an und unterstützt die Mitglieder bei der erfolgreichen ORCID-Integration. Diese umfasst neben einer Dialogplattform mit deutschsprachigen Informationsmaterialien weitere Supportleistungen. Ein wichtiger Erfolgsfaktor ist außerdem eine umfassende Kommunikationsstrategie der ORCID-Implementierung. Hier können die Mitglieder auf etablierte Kommunikationskanäle innerhalb ihrer Einrichtungen zurückgreifen. Gemeinsam leisten sie mit der Unterstützung des ORCID-DE-Projekts einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur erfolgreichen Verbreitung von ORCID in Deutschland.

- Abstract
- Linked Open Data (LOD) are a set of principles for publishing structured, connected data available for reuse under an open license. The objective of this paper is to analyze the publishing of bibliographic data such as LOD, having as a product the elaboration of theoretical-methodological recommendations for the publication of these data, in an approach based on the ten best practices for publishing LOD, from the World Wide Web Consortium. The starting point was the conduction of a Systematic Review of Literature, where initiatives to publish bibliographic data such as LOD were identified. An empirical study of these institutions was also conducted. As a result, theoretical-methodological recommendations were obtained for the process of publishing bibliographic data such as LOD.

- Abstract
- The current library bibliographic infrastructure was constructed in the early days of computers - before the Web, XML, and a variety of other technological advances that now offer new opportunities. General requirements of a modern metadata infrastructure for libraries are identified, including such qualities as versatility, extensibility, granularity, and openness. A new kind of metadata infrastructure is then proposed that exhibits at least some of those qualities. Some key challenges that must be overcome to implement a change of this magnitude are identified.

- Abstract
- The Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris - the interactive museum for science and technology which opened to the public in 1986 hosts a multimedia library holding some 330,000 documents. The small collection of CD-ROMs integrated into the library's collection since the end of 1991 (''Public section'' and the "Didacthèque") have been expanded in October 1996. Presently more than 800 titles are available for viewing on site or for circulation. After the brief background of CD-ROM installation and collections in French public libraries this paper discusses the problems of describing CD-ROMs in the online catalog. It mostly concentrates on the collection for circulation. The rules of bibliographic description correspond to the draft of the French national standard, which follows the ISBD(ER) principles. The format used for cataloguing in the library is UNIMARC and the automated system - GEAC GLIS. Cataloguing has been done locally since the national bibliographic description of electronic documents was not available at the time when the first collection was constituted. Since April 1997 the "Bibliographie nationale française" on CD-ROM provides the description for electronic documents whose downloading is now possible. This paper analyses the benefits of downloading of bibliographic records for ER and concludes that some local adaptation (updating) is necessary for satisfying end user needs
