- Arjo Klamer, professor of the economics of art and culture at Rotterdam's Erasmus University, was involved in the government-sponsored national debate on the place of knowledge in tomorrow's society. Klamer believes that changes in society will require a system of continuing training for its citizens. Klamer believes that libraries are ideally suited to fulfil this role and urges librarians to accept the challenge. He warns that current trends towards implementing market-oriented library services will attract competitors into undercutting libraries
