    Abstract
    In seiner kurzen, jüngst in BuB erschienenen Stellungnahme zur Zukunft der Bibliothek bleibt Peter Vodosek beim amerikanischen Original des Modebegriffs »Library 2.0« und verengt dabei die Reichweite der Geltung desselben deutlich: »E-Books, virtuelle Dienstleistungen oder Library 2.0 sind zweifellos Notwendigkeiten, aber eigentlich kein Ziel.« Das Bemerkenswerte ist die Verwendung des Begriffs: Wenn Peter Vodosek, bei dem ein leichtfertiger Umgang mit Begrifflichkeiten unwahrscheinlich ist, auf den Ausdruck Library 2.0 Bezug nimmt, dann kann dieser durchaus als etabliert angesehen werden. Nicht weiter konkretisiert wird, was sich hier hinter der Library 2.0 verbirgt, die als »aktuelle Notwendigkeit«, also als ein konkretes Zeitphänomen auf Stufe mit der Medientechnologie des E-Books stehend, ihren Platz und auch ihren Geltungsbereich in der Gegenwart des Bibliothekswesens zugeschrieben bekommt. Der Weg ist also nicht Ziel, sondern eher Mittel zum Zweck. ... Dies bedeutet keinesfalls ein generelles Verwerfen der mit dem Begriff verbundenen praktischen Entwicklungsansätze. Jedoch bedürfen sowohl diese, wie auch der Terminus selbst, eines Diskurses, der kritischer und selbstkritischer gestrickt ist als der aktuelle. Die Aufgabe einer Bibliothekswissenschaft läge darin, einen solchen Diskurs zu fördern und es ist bedauerlich, dass die Wissenschaftspraxis dieses Faches hier bislang nur wenig Aktivität und Mut zeigt. Trotz des oder gerade wegen des allgemeinen Aufschwungs im Wissenschaftsmarketing sollte in der Wissenschaft die Linie zwischen dem Argument, mit dem sie sich die Aufmerksamkeit und Legitimation von Gesellschaft und Politik häufig zu erkaufen gezwungen ist, und dem Argument, das in der Erkenntnisproduktion zählt, deutlich gezogen werden. Dies betrifft konkret auch das etymologisch eher unglückliche Sprachspiel Library 2.0.

    Abstract
    Die Universitätsbibliothek Tübingen zählt nicht nur zu den größten wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken Deutschlands, sondern auch zu den ältesten, blickt sie doch auf eine über 500-jährige Geschichte zurück. Angesichts einer so langen Tradition mag es erstaunen, wenn hier von einem 30-jährigen Jubiläum berichtet wird. Und doch ist die Bezeichnung "Jubiläum" angemessen, denn die Existenz eines bibliothekarischen Informationsdienstes über einen Zeitraum von 30 Jahren hinweg stellt gerade im Bereich des Informations- und Bibliothekswesens, das in den letzten Jahrzehnten beträchtlichen Veränderungen unterworfen war und vielfach mehr im Zeichen des Bruchs als der Kontinuität stand, ein zweifellos ungewöhnliches Ereignis dar. Vergegenwärtigt man sich überdies, dass dieser Dienst zwar in den 70er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts als ein sog. Current-Contents-Dienst neben anderen ins Leben gerufen wurde, sich aber im Gegensatz zu vergleichbaren Unternehmungen nicht nur dauerhaft etablieren, sondern sogar zu einem unverzichtbaren Informationsmittel für Forschung und Lehre entwickeln konnte, so wird einem das Besondere dieses Ereignisses noch deutlicher. Die folgenden Ausführungen handeln von der bibliographischen Datenbank Index Theologicus (abgekürzt: IxTheo), die für den Bereich der Theologie und der Religionswissenschaft bibliographisch unselbständige Literatur dokumentiert und von der Theologischen Abteilung der Universitätsbibliothek Tübingen erstellt wird. Der Index Theologicus stellt heute einen der Fachinformationsdienste dar, von denen es im deutschen Bibliothekswesen gewiss nicht viele gibt und der aus der gegenwärtigen Wissenschaftspraxis der Theologie nicht mehr wegzudenken ist. Bevor das inhaltliche Konzept dieser Datenbank, ihre wesentlichen Funktionalitäten und ihr konkreter Einsatz in der Informationspraxis der Universitätsbibliothek Freiburg i. Br. dargestellt werden, wollen wir uns zunächst ihrer Geschichte zuwenden und die wichtigsten Etappen ihrer Entwicklung abschreiten. Der besondere, "historische" Akzent unserer Darstellung ist weniger dem formalen Charakter unserer Ausführungen als eines "Jubiläumsbeitrags" verpflichtet, in dem nun einmal geschichtliche Aspekte nicht fehlen dürfen, als vielmehr der Überzeugung, dass diese Datenbank ein gleichermaßen lehrreiches wie beachtliches Beispiel dafür ist, wie sich bibliothekarische Arbeit erfolgreich den Herausforderungen der Zeit zu stellen vermag und die stets gegebene Spannung zwischen Kontinuität und Wandel in eine gelungene Symbiose auflösen kann.
