    Abstract
    Um einen Text zu verstehen, baut der Leser eine Vorstellung davon auf, was im Text beschrieben wird. Wie aber verstehen wir Texte, die von unanschaulichen Zusammenhängen handeln? Kommen wir dabei ohne bildhafte Vorstellungen aus - und denken in "bloßen Begriffen"? Die Natur des begrifflichen Wissens ist in der kognitiven Psychologie seit jeher umstritten. Es wird zunehmend in Frage gestellt, ob abstrakte Begriffe tatsächlich losgelöst von sinnlichen Erfahrungen bestehen. Der Autor verbindet Theorien des Textverstehens, Ideen der Gestaltpsychologie und der Kognitiven Semantik zu einem Modell, nach dem wir auch abstrakte Sachverhalte kognitiv mit den Mitteln des anschaulichen Denkens verarbeiten. Eine experimentelle Untersuchung zeigt, dass die Aktivierung von kinästhetisch-bildhaften Schemata das Lesen und Behalten von abstrakten Aussagen erleichtern kann.

    Abstract
    In einem Problemaufriss werden die heutigen Schwierigkeiten professioneller Informationsbeschaffung mit dem Internet und seinen heterogenen Informationsbeständen skizziert. Mit dem Ziel, diese Situation zu verbessern, sind die beiden neuen Standards entwickelt worden: Extensible Markup Language (XML) und Resource Description Framework (RDF). Es wird aus dokumentarischer Sicht ein Einblick in die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen dieser Techniken, ihre Syntax und Semantik gegeben. In einem Überblick werden erste Beispiele für XML/RDF-Komponenten in zukünftigen Fachinformationssystemen vorgestellt. Auf absehbare ökonomische, politische und juristische Konsequenzen der Anwendung von XML/RDF für Informations- und Dokumentationsstellen wird eingegangen. Es werden mögliche neue Aufgaben für die Informationswissenschaft im Rahmen der XML- und RDF-Entwicklung aufgezeigt

    Abstract
    Erfahrungen bei der Einführung von Wissensmanagement zeigen, dass eine ganzheitliche Herangehensweise erforderlich ist. Ausgehend von der Darstellung eines Vorgehensmodells zum Wissensmanagement betrachtet der Artikel speziell das Thema Klassifikation von Informations- und Wissensbeständen. Die Verfügbarkeit einer sinnvollen Klassifikation hat entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Akzeptanz und optimale Nutzung des technisch realisierten Wissensmanagements. Sie bietet den Vorteil, dass die Nutzer des Systems eine gemeinsame Sprache bzw. Semantik zur Beschreibung der Wissensinhalte verwenden und somit gleiche Inhalte auch gleich bezeichnen
