    Abstract
    Elektronische Bibliothekskataloge und Bibliografien haben ihr Monopol bei der Suche nach Büchern, Aufsätzen, musikalischen Werken u. a. verloren. Globale Suchmaschinen sind starke Konkurrenten, und Bibliotheken müssen heute so planen, dass ihre Dienstleistungen auch morgen noch interessant sind. Die Deutsche Bibliothek (DDB) wird ihre traditionelle Katalogrecherche zu einem globalen, netzbasierten Informationssystem erweitern, das die Vorteile der neutralen, qualitätsbasierten Katalogsuche mit den Vorteilen moderner Suchmaschinen zu verbinden sucht. Dieser Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Verbesserung der inhaltlichen Suchmöglichkeiten im Informationssystem Der Deutschen Bibliothek. Weitere Entwicklungsstränge sollen nur kurz im Ausblick angerissen werden.

    "Ein häufiger Fehler ist auch, bei Google nach Büchern zu suchen", sagt Grau. Die Suchmaschine enthält keine Bibliotheksdaten. Außerdem sollten Studenten darauf achten, ob sie nach einem Zeitschriften-Artikel oder einer Monografie suchen. Benötigt man einen Aufsatz, muss man nach dem Titel der Zeitschrift und nicht nach dem Titel des Artikels suchen. Wichtig ist auch, den Suchschlüssel zu beachten. Wer nach dem Autor Johann Wolfgang von Goethe sucht, aber das Wort in der Titelsuche eingibt, bekommt andere Treffermengen. Studenten sollten die Suche auch nicht zu sehr eingrenzen. "Dann findet man nichts", warnt Grau. Andererseits darf man auch nicht zu allgemein suchen. Wer nach einem Buch zur deutschen Geschichte sucht, bekommt bei der Eingabe von "deutsche Geschichte" Tausende Treffer. "Da muss man den richtigen Suchschlüssel auswählen", erklärt Grau. Wer im Feld "Titelanfänge" etwa "deutsche Geschichte" eingibt, finde alle Titel mit diesen Wörtern in genau dieser Reihenfolge. Er lande also nicht beim Buch "Deutsche Naturlyrik: ihre Geschichte in Einzelanalysen". Das ist bei weit gefassten Begriffen sehr wichtig und hilfreich."

    Abstract
    In den USA haben schon eine ganze Reihe von Bibliotheken ihre Zettelkataloge geschlossen und durch den Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) ersetzt. Der Verbund der Bibliotheken der obersten Bundesbehörden hat den Versuch geagt, diese Form der Katalogbenutzung auch in das deutsche wissenschaftliche Bibliothekswesen einzuführen.     Seit dem 1.8.94 betreibt die Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig einen OPAC. Dieser ist Teil des Integrierten Literatur-, Tonträger- und Musikalieninformationssystems (ILTIS), das auf der Basis der PICA-Software in Der Deutschen Bibliothek eingesetzt wird.     Abstract
    In Northern Germany, the State of Lower Saxony has developed an online library network, the center of which is the Library Computer Center at the State and University Library in Goettingen. This center offers the following data bases online: the union catalogue of serials in Lower Saxony libraries; the union catalogue of books since 1977 in these libraries; the IBZ and IBR; the last two years of the Deutsche Bibliographie, the British National Bibliography and, within the next few months, the titles offered by the Library of Congress (all in full service); then all new titles in this data base will be compatible to MARC II.

    "Scheint derzeit das Konzept von Bibliothekskatalogen auf dem 'Weg zu sein, bis zur Unkenntlichkeit mit dem Universum weltweiter Informationsnetze und Fachdatenbanken zu verschmelzen, so ist zu fragen, ob nicht angesichts immer bequemeren Zugriffs auf das Ferne und Spezielle die Besinnung auf Qaulitäten dieses 'Vorfeldes' nottut. Oder sind sachliche Suche in deutscher Sprache, interdisziplinäre Ausrichtung, komfortabler Einstieg in ein Thema, Orientierung am lokalen Bestand als Kriterium der Literaturerschließung bereits überholt? Zurückgreifend auf die These, daß es im Online-Katalog einen Kernbestand qualitativer Erschließung mit Indexaten geben soll, der - bei stets möglichem Ausgreifen auf Volltext- und Freitextretrieval - durch 'Auswahl' Klarheit und Überschaubarkeit in der Flut atomisierte Informationen sichert, könnten in dieser mit höherem intellektuellen Aufwand gepflegten Datenschicht dann auch lokale Bestände und Besonderheiten zur Geltung kommen
