    Abstract
    Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft fördert in 23 Universitätsbibliotheken (Sondersammelgebieten), 47 Spezialbibliotheken und 3 zentralen Fachbibliotheken ein System der überregionalen Literatur- und Informationsversorgung. Dieses System kooperativer umfassender Sammlung weltweit vorhandener wissenschaftlicher Literatur sollte erstmals aus der Nutzerperspektive evaluiert werden. Es sollten Form und Umfang der tatsächlichen wie der potentiellen Nutzung sowie jetzige und zukünftige Bedarfe ermittelt werden, und zwar beispielhaft in den Fächern Anglistik, Betriebswirtschaft, Biologie, Geschichte und Maschinenbau. Das Projekt wurde 2002/2003 von der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Münster zusammen mit infas-Institut für angewandte Sozialwissenschaft GmbH durchgeführt. Diese Veröffentlichung zeigt den ersten Teil der Ergebnisse, die das Informationsverhalten von Wissenschaftlern und Wissenschaftlerinnen in den fünf Fächern betreffen.

    Abstract
    Hochschulbibliotheken bieten mit Datenbanken und digitalen Volltexten ihren Kunden qualitativ hochwertige, elektronische wissenschaftliche Informationen an. Im Jahr 2000 wurden im Rahmen der Digitalen Bibliothek ca. 6,2 Mio. DM für elektronische Publikationen in NRW zentral bereit gestellt, die Hochschulbibliotheken des Landes haben zusätzlich ca. 1,5 bis 2,5 Millionen DM für die Finanzierung jeweils lokalspezifischer Angebote sowie ihres Eigenanteils an den Inhalten der Digitalen Bibliothek ausgegeben. Angesichts der zunehmenden Bedeutung elektronischer Publikationen im Erwerbungsetat von Hochschulbibliotheken sowie der seit Jahren von der Bildungspolitik propagierten Informationskompetenz von Studierenden und Lehrenden in einer immer komplexer werdenden Wissensgesellschaft, bleibt jedoch die Nutzung der von Hochschulbibliotheken angebotenen elektronischen Fachinformationen noch in vielen Fällen hinter den Erwartungen zurück. Im April 2000 hat das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) die Sozialforschungsstelle Dortmund beauftragt, eine umfassende Bestandsaufnahme zur Nutzung elektronischer Fachinformationen durchzuführen. Die Studie wurde in Kooperation mit der Universität Dortmund und der Gesellschaft für angewandte Unternehmensforschung und Sozialstatistik (GAUS) mbH durchgeführt, der Endbericht liegt seit Juni 2001 auf dem FTP-Server des BMBF vor. Die Daten wurden durch schriftliche Befragungen von Dekanaten, Studierenden und Hochschullehrenden sowie durch Expertengespräche, in die auch Vertreter aus dem Bibliothekswesen einbezogen wurden, an bundesdeutschen Hochschulen und Fachhochschulen erhoben. Dieser Beitrag stellt die wichtigsten Ergebnisse der Studie und deren Maßnahmenvorschläge zur Förderung der Informationskompetenz vor und zieht einige Schlussfolgerungen für zukünftige Aktivitäten von Hochschulbibliotheken in diesem Bereich.

Insgesamt liegt mit "Teaching Library- eine Kernaufgabe für Bibliotheken" ein Werk vor, das für all jene Bibliothekare interessant ist, die sich mit dem Thema in seiner ganzen Bandbereite näher auseinandersetzen wollen. Literaturhinweise und Verweise aufWebseiten laden außerdem ein, sich in die jeweilige Thematik weiter zu vertiefen.
