- Abstract
- So, Handbuch kaufen, Studium abbrechen und ab ins Berufsleben. Diese Zusammenfassung des Uni-Informatik-Wissens durch 47 Autoren auf über 1.150 Seiten lässt das nahe legen. Die beiden Autoren Peter Rechenberg und Gustav Pomberger fassen so ziemlich alle Inhalte des Informatikstudiums im Informatik-Handbuch zusammen. Auf kleinem Format, eng gedruckt und auf dünnem Papier erhält der Leser sieben Teile geballter Informationen. Die Bereiche sind Theoretische Informatik, Daten, Technische Informatik, Praktische Informatik, Angewandte Informatik, Wirtschaftsinformatik sowie Normen und Spezifikationen. Jeder Teil enthält zwei bis 15 Kapitel, die von jeweils einem oder mehreren der Autoren erstellt wurden. Die Kapitel sind mehr oder minder umfangreich, klar gegliedert -- und hierbei auch sehr schön gesetzt -- je nach Thema mit klaren Grafiken und Hinweisen auf allgemeine und spezielle Literatur. Die Algorithmen werden in der Sprache Adele beschrieben. Diese dürfte vielen Lesern nicht bekannt sein, wird aber am Ende in einem eigenen Anhang erklärt. Die einfache, an Pascal und Modula-2 angelehnte Syntax, macht die Algorithmen leicht nachvollziehbar. Der Aufbau der Kapitel ist entsprechend ihrer Komplexität ebenfalls gut nachvollziehbar. An einigen Stellen ist den Autoren ihre Begeisterung anzumerken, so dass hier das Lesen geradezu Spaß macht.

- Abstract
- Auf keinem anderen Gebiet sind Entwicklungen so schnelllebig wie in der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik. Neue Entwicklungen wie Telefon, Internet, Desktop Publishing, digitale Musik, Fernseh- und Videotechnik oder Computergrafik durchdringen nicht nur das tägliche Leben, sie verändern es auch. Wer hätte zum Beispiel vor einigen Jahren gedacht, dass man an jedem Ort auf der Welt und zu jedem Zeitpunkt telefonisch erreichbar ist, man seine Musiksammlung von mehreren zehntausend Titeln in der Hosentasche herumträgt oder publizistisch tätig werden und Millionen von Menschen erreichen kann. So haben sich die Entwicklungen der Informationstechnik in großen kulturellen Veränderungen niedergeschlagen, insbesondere durch Entwicklungen, die aus der Verbindung von Kunst und Technik, von Ästhetik und IT-Werkzeugen, von Kultureinrichtungen und Informationssystemen oder von Mobilität und Kommunikation entstanden sind. Der Sammelband Kultur und Informatik reflektiert, analysiert und diskutiert die Veränderungen, Wechselwirkungen und Entwicklungstendenzen zweier sich immer mehr beeinflussender und verbindender Domänen sowie die weitreichenden Folgen für die Gesellschaft.

- Abstract
- Das 13. Internationale Symposium für Informationswissenschaft (ISI 2013) führt die alle zwei Jahre stattfindende Tagung des Hochschulverbandes für Informationswissenschaft (HI) fort. Sie stellt stets ein Schaufenster auf die aktuelle Diskussion der Informationswissenschaft als Fachdisziplin zwischen Informatik, Interface Design, Computerlinguistik und benachbarten Sozialwissenschaften dar. Die eingereichten Beiträge stammen vorwiegend von (fast) allen Lehrstühlen und Instituten der Informationswissenschaft in den deutschsprachigen Ländern. In Kooperation mit dem amerikanischen Schwesterverband, der "Association of Information Science and Technology" (ASIS&T), gelang es wieder, neben den herausragenden Keynotes auch weitere internationale Beiträge zu integrieren und auf diese Weise die europäisch-deutschsprachige Informationswissenschaft mit dem internationalen Diskurs zu verbinden. Das Motto der Tagung verweist auf die aktuellen Veränderungen in der Fachdisziplin und in den vorherrschenden Anwendungsfeldern. Wie in vielen Wissenschaften vollzieht sich auch in der Informationswissenschaft ein vielfältiger Paradigmenwechsel, der auf den Wandel zur "digitalen Gesellschaft" reagiert. Neben klassischen Themengebieten wie Information Retrieval, Metadaten, Usability, Portalen, neuen Medientechnologien oder Bibliometrie rücken deshalb Fragen des Informationsverhaltens und der tatsächlichen "Informationspraxis" immer mehr in den Fokus.
