    Abstract
    Vor dem Hintergrund einer Bestandsaufnahme bezüglich der Verbreitung von Open-Access-Zeitschriften, dem so genannten "goldenen Weg" zu Open Access, werden Faktoren vorgestellt, die die Akzeptanz von Open Access unter Autor/inn/en beeinflussen. Bei einer Umfrage hat sich gezeigt, dass technische Maßnahmen nur wenig dazu beitragen, die Akzeptanz zu erhöhen; organisatorische Maßnahmen wie die Erhöhung der Publikationsgeschwindigkeit wirken eher förderlich, aber die Frage der Qualität von Zeitschriften und des damit verbundenen Renommees steht eindeutig im Mittelpunkt des Interesses.

    Abstract
    In Desktop und Internet werden weiterhin große Chancen einer kostengünstigen und nachhaltigen Optimierung der elektronischen Fachinformation gesehen. Gründe dafür sind die vergleichsweise einfach handzuhabenden Produktionswerkzeuge, die rasche Distribution über das Internet und der grundsätzlich orts- und zeitunabhängige Ressourcenzugang für jedermann. Die Vision einer allumfassenden Ressourcenverfügbarkeit im Sinne der Informationsfreiheit scheint die neue Technologie in greifbare Nähe gerückt zu haben. Dieser aus rein technischer Sicht bestehenden Möglichkeit stellen sich zwei Faktoren entgegen, die das wissenschaftliche Publizieren seit langem bestimmen; dies sind Maßnahmen zur Qualitätssicherung, zu denen insbesondere das PeerReviewing gehört, sowie urheber- und verbreitungsrechtliche Schutzmaßnahmen, die die Lizenzierungspraxis für den Zugriff auf elektronische Informationsressourcen begründen. Insofern steht die auf den technischen Möglichkeiten beruhende Option einer ungehinderten Ressourcenzugänglichkeit den Einschränkungen des urheber- und verbreitungsrechtlichen Schutzes (einschließlich der Kostendeckung für die Herstellung qualitätsgesicherter Information) gegenüber. Welche Beeinträchtigungen sich daraus für die Nutzung kostenpflichtig lizenzierter Fachinformation ergeben können, wird an der aktuellen Debatte um die Urheberrechtsnovellierung in besonderer Weise deutlich.

    Abstract
    Institutionelle Repositorien (IR) wurden vornehmlich entwickelt, um die Sichtbarkeit des Forschungsoutputs einer Institution darzustellen. Resultate empirischer Arbeiten über die Akzeptanz und Nutzung institutioneller Repositorien in den vergangenen Jahren zeichnen jedoch ein eher kritisches Bild dieses scheinbaren Erfolgsmodells. Denn obwohl von Universitätsbibliotheken und Forschungseinrichtungen Geld und Personal in ihren Aufbau und Betrieb investiert wurde, konnten institutionellen Repositorien die Erwartungshaltungen nicht immer erfüllen. Haben sich die Proponenten bei der Umsetzung der Ziele ungeeigneter Strategien bedient, gab es technologische Veränderungen und wurden IR durch andere Formen und Techniken der Wissenschaftskommunikation bereits still und leise abgelöst? Im Versuch diese und ähnliche Fragestellungen in einer essayistisch kritischen Form zu beantworten, sollen Faktoren, die den heutigen Status quo von IR mitbestimmt haben, beleuchtet werden. An Beispielen aus dem Markt für Wissenschaftskommunikation einerseits und verschiedenen Charakteristika des Forschungsprozesses andererseits, wird versucht, Entwicklungen zu skizzieren und Wirkungszusammenhänge abzuleiten, die das Modell der institutionellen Repositorien beeinflusst haben.
