    Abstract
During Nov. 1988 and March 1989 more than 21 personal and telephone interviews were conducted with cataloguers and classifiers in the libraries of the City University of New York. The purpose was to determine whether or not any of the CUNY libraries adapted cataloguing and classification procedures to represent more fully the college's occupational specialty or give clearer access to the literature by specific ethnic groups. The public catalogues were examined when appropriate

    Abstract
This work systematically examines printed and automated descriptive cataloging and subject access. Background information is presented in the opening chapters, followed by four core chapters on decriptive cataloging and subject access in both printed and automated formats. Many facets of the topic are explored, including card catalogs, bibliographies, subject headings, thesauri, MARC, OPACs, periodical and book indexes, and CD-ROM.
