    Abstract
Discusses the 5 new laws of library science formulated by M. Gorman (1995) as an updated reinterpretation of Ranganathan's original rules. Notes Gorman's hostility to outsourcing, his belief that uncontrolled automation in libraries will harm cataloguing, and his view that there will always be a role for printed and other non electronic forms of communication. Reviews also the alternative 'Five new laws of librarianship' proposed by M. Line (1996). Concludes that Ranganathan's 5 precepts remain valid in today's changed conditions

    Abstract
The Deutsches Bibliotheksinstitut has undergone radical restructuring since German reunification. One urgent task was to adapt the Marxist oriented Klassifikation für Allgemeinbibliotheken (KAB) to new automated cataloguing systems. Analyses the new 1993 edition of the KAB, described as useful but insufficient, and points out some defects in the current Regeln für die alphabetische Katalgisierung (RAK)
