Presents the concept significance affect as expression of an information effect in index words, based on a discussion of the key concepts in Geroge Lakoff's cognitive semantics: basic-level categorizing, cue validity, prototype effect, kinesthetic image schemas, metaphors, metonymy and radical structures, and idealized cognitive models

Abstract

Although the revised danMARC format, danMARC2 was ready early 95, it is still uncertain if it will be used. Doubts have been expressed about the usefulness of national formats and several research libraries prefer speedy transition to USMARC. Attempts are being made to harmonise the most important MARC formats in use in the English-speaking world, but it is as yet uncertain how this MARC standard will turn out and USMARC cannot directly be applied as Danish format. Meantime the Z39.50 protocol can be used. Formats will change rapidly, and whatever choice is made is unlikely to last many years. With the future for IMARC still uncertain MARC2 is the only realistic way forward
