    Abstract
    Das lang geplante Großprojekt eines Verzeichnisses der im deutschen Sprachraum erschienenen Drucke des 17. Jahrhunderts ist nach Abschluss der Vorbereitungsphase im Dezember 1995 in diesem Jahr in die Hauptphase eingetreten. Die Vorgeschichte, die inhaltlich-konzeptuellen Eckpfeiler sowie die Entwicklung und Realisierung dieses nationalen Unternehmens werden im folgenden in einem notwendigerweise komprimierten Überblick rekapituliert. Dabei erweist sich - sicherlich paradigmatisch für ein bibliographisches Projekt der Informationsgesellschaft -, daß die Darstellung der technischen Grundlagen ein ebenso großes Gewicht erhält wie die Fragen von Regelwerk und Erschließungstiefe

    Abstract
    Die Veröffentlichung, die als praktische Hilfe für alle an der Thematik Interessierten angelegt ist und aus diesem Grund auch durch 11 ausführliche beispiele (Vorlage - gefelderte Form [MAB-Katgeorien] - ISBD-Form - Erläuterungen) ergänzt wird, enthält in einem Kapitel sowohl alle Bestimmungen der RAK-WB, die nur für alte Drucke gelten, als auch diejenigen, die insbesondere alte Drucke betreffen. Weitere Teile enthalten die Fingerprint-Regeln sowie Empfehlungen zu Gattungsbegriffen ('Göttinger Liste'), zur orthographischen Normierung und zur Normierung von Erscheinungsorten. Die Aneignung der Regeln wird außer durch die schon erwähnten Beispiele durch ein Glossar mit für die Titelaufnahme wichtigen Fachbegriffen aus dem bereich der alten Drucke unterstützt

    Production of VD16 began in 1969, by traditional means since the computer was not normally used then for cataloguing. In 1979 computerized cataloguing began of 16th century stocks in Wolfenbüttel and München, later exoanded to cover other libraries as a national database nucleus. In 1993 the Saztec firm began computerized conversion of VD16. The data, in UNIMARC format, can be taken over by other databases
