Brandtner): "Die vorliegende Veröffentlichung von Theresia Simon, Professorin für Betriebswirtschaft im Studiengang Wirtschaftsinformatik und E-Business an der Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten, basiert auf einer Dissertation an der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Potsdam, die im Dezember 2004 abgeschlossen wurde. Zentrales Anliegen der Arbeit ist es, in einer Zeit eines diagnostizierten Umbruchs die Strategiediskussionen von Universitäts- und Hochschulbibliotheken aus der Perspektive einer Einzelorganisation kritisch zu unterstützen, um deren Erfolgspositionen im Wettbewerb zu stärken. Dabei geht die Studie richtigerweise davon aus, dass die Entwicklung hin zur Wissensgesellschaft keinesfalls den Organisationstyp Bibliothek automatisch begünstigt, obwohl die bibliothekarische Gemeinschaft konform zu den Grundwerten der Wissensgesellschaft agiert. Erst durch intensive Positionierungsarbeit kann es Bibliotheken gelingen, am Informationsmarkt langfristig erfolgreich zu bleiben. Erklärte Zielgruppe der Studie ist das Bibliotheksmanagement. . . . Im abschließenden sechsten Kapitel behandelt die Studie den Einfluss ergänzender Entscheidungsfelder eines integrierten Managements auf die Bibliothekspositionierung. Dabei verbleibt sie allerdings ganz im allgemeinen Managementwissen und erarbeitet keine bibliotheksspezifischen Ansätze. Dass Lernen (im Sinn der Lernenden Organisation) ein fokussierender Metaaspekt einer zukunftsorientierten Bibliotheksentwicklung ist, dass Human Resource Management, Leistungsmessung und organisationsstrukturelle Modernisierung die Bibliotheksentwicklung unterstützen, kann aktuell als Allgemeinplatz angesehen werden.
