    Abstract
    Eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben als Fachreferent*in ist die inhaltliche Erschließung der neuerworbenen Literatur, sowie die Begutachtung und Auswahl der neu erschienenen Werke in den jeweiligen Fachgebieten hinsichtlich der Relevanz für die eigenen Sammlungen gemäß dem Sammlungsprofil der TU Wien Bibliothek. Im Zuge der Corona-Krise wurde die herkömmliche Arbeitsweise in der Sacherschließung beeinträchtigt, und es haben sich neue Herausforderungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten ergeben. Neben der fehlenden Autopsie der Literatur leidet auch die Sichtung und Erwerbung neuer Literatur unter der physischen Abwesenheit vom Arbeitsplatz bzw. der entsprechenden technischen Infrastruktur. Auch der persönliche Austausch mit den Kolleg*innen wurde deutlich erschwert. Neben den Schwierigkeiten wurden aber auch die neuen Handlungsoptionen auf beruflicher und individueller Ebene positiv gesehen. In dem Artikel werden unsere individuellen Erfahrungen an der TU Wien Bibliothek sowie Ausblicke in die Zukunft wiedergegeben.

    Abstract
    Der vorliegende Artikel basiert auf einer an der Fachhochschule Köln entstandenen Master's Thesis und beschäftigt sich mit den theoretischen Grundlagen sowie der Praxis der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz an deutschen Hochschulbibliotheken1. Nach einem Vergleich von Entwicklung und derzeitigem Stand der Diskussion zwischen den USA und Deutschland werden die Ergebnisse einer Website-Untersuchung vorgestellt. Den Abschluss bildet ein Ausblic auf Möglichkeiten zur weiteren Verbesserung der allgemeinen Informationskompetenz in Deutschland.

    Abstract
    Nach einer kurzen Darstellung der Entwicklung der Suchdienste wird das Suchretrieval von AltaVista näher beschrieben. Es werden Kriterien für die Beurteilung der Suchdienste festgelegt.     Abstract
    Methoden der automatischen Inhaltserschließung werden seit mehr als 30 Jahren entwickelt, ohne in luD-Kreisen auf merkliche Akzeptanz zu stoßen. Gegenwärtig führen jedoch die steigende Informationsflut und der Bedarf an effizienten Zugriffsverfahren im Informations- und Wissensmanagement in breiten Anwenderkreisen zu einem wachsenden Interesse an diesen Methoden, zu verstärkten Anstrengungen in Forschung und Entwicklung und zu neuen Produkten. In diesem Beitrag werden verschiedene Ansätze zu intelligentem und inhaltsbasiertem Retrieval und zur automatischen Inhaltserschließung diskutiert sowie kommerziell vertriebene Softwarewerkzeuge und Lösungen präsentiert. Abschließend wird festgestellt, dass in naher Zukunft mit einer zunehmenden Automatisierung von bestimmten Komponenten des Informations- und Wissensmanagements zu rechnen ist, indem Software-Werkzeuge zur automatischen Inhaltserschließung in den Workflow integriert werden

    Abstract
    Für die erfolgreiche Einwerbung von Drittmitteln für Forschung und Entwicklung an Fachhochschulen kann ein speziell zugeschnittenes Wissensmanagementsystem unterstützend wirken. In einem Semesterprojekt entwickelten Studierendenteams zwei webbasierte prototypische Wissensmanagementumgebungen auf Basis einer Wiki-Software bzw. auf Basis eines Content Management Systems. In das Konzept gingen neben theoriegeleiteten Ansätzen Ergebnisse aus Interviews mit den zukünftigen Anwendern des Systems ein. Die Prototypen umfassen Funktionen wie gemeinsame Dateiablage, Kalender, Yellow-Pages und RSS und können für eigene Weiterentwicklungen herunter geladen werden.

    Abstract
    Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.

    Abstract
    Eine Einschätzung der bisherigen Forschung über gesellschaftliche Auswirkungen der Informationstechnik führt dazu, die Frage nach der gesellschaftlichen Beherrschbarkeit dieser Technik neu zu stellen. Hierzu werden einige Vorüberlegungen angestellt. Zum einen wird auf Bereiche hingewiesen, die von der Forschung gegenwärtig vernachlässigt werden (Zentralisationsproblem / gesellschaftliche Machtstruktur, Implikationen für das Individuum im Alltag). Zum anderen wird versucht, die Rolle der Forschung im Prozeß der politischen Beherrschung der Informationstechnik genauer zu bestimmen.     Abstract
    Die Universitätsbibliothek Freiburg bietet Kurse zur Entwicklung und Förderung von Informations- und Medienkompetenz an, die nicht auf den Umgang mit bibliographischen Quellen beschränkt, sondern auf den nicht minder wichtigen Umgang mit Multimedia erweitert sind. Eine andere Herausforderung betrifft die Bewältigung des Massenproblems infolge hoher Studierendenzahlen in manchen Fächern. Allein durch Präsenzveranstaltungen dürfte es kaum möglich sein, die steigende Nachfrage nach Bibliothekskursen zu befriedigen. Es bedarf der Unterstützung durch virtuelle Lernangebote, die seit dem Jahr 2003 erprobt und praktisch umgesetzt werden.

    Abstract
    Bücher werden geschrieben, um Gedanken mitzuteilen und vor dem Vergessen zu bewahren. Dabei stellt sich allerdings die Frage, ob die Publikationsflut nicht die Veränderung und damit auch das Vergessen, das Bücher eigentlich bekämpfen wollen, fördert?
