- Abstract
- The system is available both in print and online versions. Names a few new subject headings in areas like science, technology, engineering and medicine (STEM). In this edition, there are a total of 1,600 new headings making it a total of 12,000+ preferred headings meant for subject access in small and medium sized libraries. This unprecedented increase of about 1,600 headings is mostly due the complete incorporation of the Canadian Sears last published independently in 2006. Also critically examines inconsistencies in a few headings. Concludes to say the new edition in resplendent, hard binding maintains its stellar reputation of a handy list of general subject headings both for applications and a teaching resource.

- Abstract
- A thourough understanding of current subject cataloging practice, especially Library of Congress practice, will assist librarians in making the best use of new and emerging technology to ease the task of constructing subject headings. To gain insight into the most current subject cataloging practices at the Library of Congress, a random sample of one thousand bibliographic records with one or more 6XX fields and Library of Congress card numbers assigned from 1988 to the present was drawn from the BOOKSM database. Library of Congress catalogers rely heavily on the system of free-floating subdivisions in the process of constructing subject headings. Attempts to improve the subject cataloging process must take into account this fundamental characteristic of the Library of Congress subject headings system

- Abstract
- This writeup presents the fundamentals of subject indexing in terms of its development, scope, coverage, role in subject indexing techniques and the important elements to design a well-structured and effective subject indexing process, requirements and the infrastructure. From the time of RDC to PRECIS, the developers has been envisaged the problems to expand the flexibility and versatility of indexing technique. Whenever one indexing process is failed to achieve the maximum efficiency another is developed on the basis of failure. It concludes that all the developments of subject indexing processes during that era are leads to the innovation of Artificial Intelligence technique (AI), i.e. Natural Language Processing (NLP) by implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in present time.
