    Abstract
The popularity of CD-ROM products has caused librarians to become more active participants in the bibliographic instruction process. To meet the instructional needs of users, a variety of teaching methods has been explored at the Purdy/Kresge Library, Wayne Stare University, Detroit, Michigan, where 4 CD-Rom systems-ERIC, PsycLIT, Compact Disclosure, Social Science Index (SSI)-have also been purchased. The teaching methods include: developing instructional leaflets; offering individual instruction on demand or by appointment; scheduled group sessions; course integrated training sessions. Describes these activities and reports select results of a preliminary survey, undertaken in Spring 88, designed to evaluate user reaction to the library's CD-ROM products.

    Abstract
Summarises the findings of apilot project at the Austrian Planning centre for Academic Libraries to assess the ÖZDB-Compactsystem on CD-ROM, the first system for serials on CD-ROM to be used in the German speaking countries. The system makes available 47,713 titles from Vienna, Graz, Linz and Salzburg university Libraries locally on an Apple Macintosh computer. The firm was able to provide information about CD-ROM and to supply the hardware for the 6-week project. The whole programme was prepared centrally. It was possible to call up records both by title and by institution responsible, and of the desired degree of specificity. The systems allows the additional advantages option of CD-PAC (Compact Disc Public Access Catalogue) wich can be used in conjunction with the already established BIBOS system.

    Abstract
Reports on research into the use of new technologies in providing more sophisticated delivery systems where the services of skilled reference librarians are not available. Describes a workstation equipped with a CD-ROM jukebox of reference books and vocabulary control tools on laser discs with keyword access. The user interface will include an expert system to guide users in selecting the types of material and in developing the best search strategy by mapping the terms selected by the users to contolled vocabularies. Searches will be narrowed or broadened as appropriate. The system will also be designed to connect to a full service integrated library network enabling the user to access the on-line card catalogue, check circulation and perform interlibrary loans.

    Abstract
Since 1986, a project has been underway to catalogue a private collection of the massive body of work of the artist Anne Ward Huey. The project has progressed from a handwritten card file to a computer file using AACR2 and OCLC tags and format. A compact disc or videotape file is also presently projected. In addition to taking traditional libray cataloguing out of the library setting, the project has addressed a number of problems involved in cataloguing silkscreen prints, and the records created by the project also contain information that AACR2 does not specifically address but that artists consider important. Recommends that the cataloguing rules be revised to encompass these specific aspects of cataloguing art work.

    Abstract
A classification system traditionally presents knowledge as if it were static. However, pictures, words and the books written about them have meanings which (1) vary from place to place, (2) change with time and (3) depend on a cluster of related terms. The paper outlines a framework for these dynamic characteristics of knowledge: a model for integrating information from competing and even seemingly conflicting classification systems. To outline this model the word 'perspective' is analysed in terms of theory, practice and individuals. Perspectival theory is considered under definitions, primary and secondary literature and related terms. The lecture emphasizes the potential value of computers, lase discs and word processors for a new awareness of the historical and dynamic dimensions of knowledge. This model, if applied systematically, might lead to a reorganization of knowledge
