- Abstract
- Mit insgesamt sechs halbjährlichen Faktenberichten, ergänzt durch jährliche Trendberichte, analysieren NFO Infratest Bereich Information und Dokumentation, München und das Institute for Information Economics, Hattingen, im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Technologie bis zum Jahr 2003 den Entwicklungsstand der Informationswirtschaft und seiner Teilmärkte in Deutschland im weltweiten Vergleich. Der vierte Faktenbericht ist eine internationale Benchmarking-Studie, die die deutsche Informationswirtschaft im Vergleich zu Europa, USA und Japan beschreibt. Es werden verlässliche und aktuelle Daten zurMarktentwicklung ermittelt und über mehrere Jahre fortgeschrieben. 26 Prozent der Daten enthalten Prognosen bis 2010, 41 Prozent werden zusätzlich in Zeitreihen (1999 bis 2005) dargestellt die wichtigsten Daten werden in Form von 436 Charts visualisiert. Der Trendbericht ergänzt diese Darstellung durch eine Befragung deutscher Experten, die ein differenziertes und umfassendes Meinungs- und Stimmungsbild der Informationswirtschaft zu den für sie zentralen Fragen ergeben und auf bevorstehende Entwicklungen in der Informationswirtschaft aufmerksam machen. DerArtikel fasst die wesentlichen Ergebnisse des 4. Faktenberichts und 2. Trendberichts zusammen. - Abstract
- Das zweitägige Symposium war Teil eines umfangreichen Jubiläumsprogramms unter dem Motto "Welcome tomorrow" zum 150-jährigen Bestehen der Eidgenössischen Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETH). Um über die Zukunft der Informationsversorgung zu diskutieren war die ETH-Bibliothek nicht nur aufgrund ihrer traditionellen Bedeutung als eine der führenden naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Bibliotheken berufen. Aktuell spielt sie eine wichtige Rolle in dem Zukunftskonzept ETH World, der zentralen Informationsplattform, die alle Angehörigen der ETH in ihren jeweiligen Aufgaben und Kompetenzen spezifisch unterstützen soll. Und auf einem derzeit geplanten neuen Campus der ETH ist die Bibliothek in allen Entwürfen auch als Ort an zentraler Stelle präsent. Beide Aspekte hob Gerhard Schmitt, Vizepräsident Planung und Logistik der ETH, in seiner Begrüßung hervor. Die Referentinnen und Referenten und die etwa 250 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer kamen aus Bibliotheken, Universitäten und Forschungseinrichtungen, Firmen und Verlagen und repräsentierten die wesentlichen Akteure im Informationsprozess, die in den letzten Jahren schon regelmäßig in unterschiedlichen Foren zusammenkommen, um das Mengen- und Kostenproblem der Informationsversorgung zu lösen.

- Abstract
- Unter "Wirtschaftsinformation" versteht man einerseits Informationen über das Wirtschaftsgeschehen, andererseits auch Informationenfür die "Wirtschaft". Während sich Privatleute, staatliche Institutionen und entsprechende Berufsgruppen (z.B. Journalisten, Wirtschaftsforscher) in der Regel mit dem wirtschaftlichen Geschehen allgemein befassen, bedeutet Wirtschaftsinformation für Unternehmen in erster Linie "Geschäftsinformation", Informationen also, die bei der zielorientierten Unternehmensführung, bei der Planung und Steuerung operativer Abläufe und bei der Beurteilung der Märkte und Marktchancen unterstützen. Der im angelsächsischen Sprachbereich gebräuchliche Begriff "Business Information" macht diesen Sachverhalt auch besser deutlich als der wenig spezifische deutsche Begriff "Wirtschaftsinformation". Nachfolgend wird Wirtschaftsinformation unter der Sicht der Unternehmensinformation betrachtet. Der Bedarf eines Unternehmens an Wirtschaftsinformation resultiert aus seinen Geschäfts- und Aufgabenfeldern, aus seiner Marktstrategie und aus den das Unternehmensumfeld beeinflussenden Faktoren politisch-gesetzlicher, ökonomischer, technologischer und sozio-kultureller Art. Wirtschaftsinformationen bieten die Grundlage für wirtschaftliches Handeln und Entscheiden. Sie sollen die Erkenntnis der wahrscheinlichen Entwicklung eines Sachverhaltes ermöglichen bzw die Auswirkungen bestimmter Entscheidungen oder Handlungen prognostizieren helfen. Die rechtzeitige Identifikation und Erschliessung von Marktpotentialen spielt eine wesentliche Rolle für die Sicherung von Wettbewerbsvorteilen und für die Festigung strategischer Marktpositionen. Neue Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien machen Produkte und Leistungen auf dem Markt transparenter und vergleichbarer. In einem wettbewerbsintensiven Markt wird der Zugang zur richtigen Information zur richtigen Zeit um so bedeutender, je mehr Marktteilnehmer potentiell über die gleichen Informationen verfügen. Das Wissen über Absatzmärkte, Marktanteile, Wettbewerber, Kundensegmente und Kundenanforderungen ist ein entscheidender Wettbewerbsfaktor. Der schnelle und umfassende Zugriff auf benötigte Informationen ist in Unternehmen eine maßgebliche Voraussetzung für die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit. Neben den im operativen Geschäft und bei den betrieblichen Unterstützungsfunktionen anfallenden Daten sind es die öffentlich zugänglichen Informationen des externen Informationsmarktes, die einen wesentlichen Teil des Informationsbedarfs ausmachen.

- Abstract
- Die deutsche Informationswirtschaft wird trotz beachtlicher Kapazitäten für Problemlösungen für Volkswirtschaft und Gesellschaft immer weiter auf Marktnischen zurückgedrängt. Diese Situation ließe sich verbessern, indem sich die Informationswirtschaft spontan entlang Problem- und Projektlinien selbst organisiert und ihre besondere Content-Kompetenz in Modell-Initiativen unter Beweis stellt. Referenzprojekte gibt es bereits, und weitere Vorschläge wurden kürzlich von Schumacher und Stock unterbreitet.
