    Abstract
    Mit der 3. Aufl. der RSWK wird eine Neubearbeitung vorgelegt, die eine durchgehende Revision des Regelwerkes vor allem unter Berücksichtigung des Online-Katalogs zum Ziel hatte. Eine wesentliche Bedingung dabei war allerdings, die breite Akzeptanz des Regelwerks zu erhalten und die gegenwärtigen Dienstleistungen der anwendenden Bibliotheken weiterführen zu können. Im Regelwerk sind die Standards festgeschrieben, die von Der Deutschen Bibliothek und den mitarbeitenden Bibliotheksverbünden eingehalten werden. Damit wird die zentrale Rolle der kooperativ geführten Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD) im Regelwerk verankert. Für die 3. Aufl. hatte sich die mit dieser Arbeit betraute Expertengruppe des DBI folgende grundsätzliche aufgaben gestellt: Einbeziehung der Voraussetzungen für den Einsatz der Datenverarbeitung in das Regelwerk (Abstimmung von Regelwerk und Datenformat, Beschreibung auch der wesentlichen Bestimmungen für das Datenformat); Verbesserung der Struktur der SWD und Nutzbarmachung der intern verwendeten Datei für den Benutzer; Ausweitung der Sacherschließung bei in Bibliothekskatalogen nachgewiesenen Materialarten); redaktionelle Überarbeitung des gesamten Regelwerkes, vor allem auch der Struktur der Grundregeln, die jetzt alle grundlegende Bestimmungen - auch aus Beispielsammlung und Praxisregeln - enthalten. Der Einleitung in das Regelwerk ist eine nach Paragraphen geordnete Übersicht der wichtigsten Veränderungen nachgestellt. Das Sachregister wurde überarbeitet; neu ist ein Beispielregister, das alle im Text des Regelwerks enthaltenen Beispiele erschließt
