    Abstract
    Sponsored by the German Ministry of Education and Research with funding of 800.000 EURO, the German Network of Expertise in long-term storage of digital resources (nestor) began in June 2003 as a cooperative effort of 6 partners representing different players within the field of long-term preservation. The partners include: * The German National Library (Die Deutsche Bibliothek) as the lead institution for the project * The State and University Library of Lower Saxony Göttingen (Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen) * The Computer and Media Service and the University Library of Humboldt-University Berlin (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) * The Bavarian State Library in Munich (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek) * The Institute for Museum Information in Berlin (Institut für Museumskunde) * General Directorate of the Bavarian State Archives (GDAB) As in other countries, long-term preservation of digital resources has become an important issue in Germany in recent years. Nevertheless, coming to agreement with institutions throughout the country to cooperate on tasks for a long-term preservation effort has taken a great deal of effort. Although there had been considerable attention paid to the preservation of physical media like CD-ROMS, technologies available for the long-term preservation of digital publications like e-books, digital dissertations, websites, etc., are still lacking. Considering the importance of the task within the federal structure of Germany, with the responsibility of each federal state for its science and culture activities, it is obvious that the approach to a successful solution of these issues in Germany must be a cooperative approach. Since 2000, there have been discussions about strategies and techniques for long-term archiving of digital information, particularly within the distributed structure of Germany's library and archival institutions. A key part of all the previous activities was focusing on using existing standards and analyzing the context in which those standards would be applied. One such activity, the Digital Library Forum Planning Project, was done on behalf of the German Ministry of Education and Research in 2002, where the vision of a digital library in 2010 that can meet the changing and increasing needs of users was developed and described in detail, including the infrastructure required and how the digital library would work technically, what it would contain and how it would be organized. The outcome was a strategic plan for certain selected specialist areas, where, amongst other topics, a future call for action for long-term preservation was defined, described and explained against the background of practical experience.

    Abstract
    Anwendungen der Mathematik ohne Computer, Software und Simulationen sind heute eigentlich kaum mehr vorstellbar, und die Entwicklung von Algorithmen und Softwarelösungen macht einen stetig wachsenden Teil der mathematischen Forschung aus. Aber anders als mathematische Literatur, wird mathematische Software nicht systematisch in Bibliotheken vorgehalten bzw. elektronisch nachgewiesen. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt mit der open access Datenbank swMATH (http://www.swmath.org) einen neuen Ansatz vor, der bereits als Prototyp existiert und genutzt werden kann. Das Projekt swMATH wird von der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft gefördert und vom Mathematischen Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach in Kooperation mit FIZ Karlsruhe bearbeitet. Fachliche Unterstützung erhält das Projekt vom DFG-Forschungszentrum MATHEON, vom Zuse-Institut Berlin, vom Weierstraß-Institut für Angewandte Analysis und Stochastik sowie dem Felix-Klein-Zentrum für Mathematik der Universität Kaiserslautern. zbMATH knüpft an den Dienst Oberwolfach References on Mathematical Software (ORMS) (http://orms.mfo.de) an. ORMS bietet differenzierte, manuell erstellte Informationen für eine relativ kleine Anzahl handverlesener mathematischer Softwaresysteme. swMATH arbeitet hingegen weitgehend mit automatischen Methoden, um möglichst viele mathematische Softwarelösungen verfügbar zu machen.

    Abstract
    Im Rahmen eines Projektseminars am Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin wurden an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken Benutzerbefragungen durchgeführt. Wir haben die Antworten auf eine Frage zum Informationsverhalten bibliotheksübergreifend statistisch ausgewertet. Neben Unterschieden zwischen Fächern stellen wir fest, dass sich das Informationsverhalten junger Bibliotheksnutzer oft erheblich von dem älterer Nutzer unterscheidet. Das Verhalten von Bibliotheksnutzern hinsichtlich der Häufigkeit der Nutzung von Bibliotheksangeboten und dem World Wide Web (WWW) ist vorwiegend ähnlich. Nutzer mit konträrem Verhalten sind unterrepräsentiert gegenüber denen, die beides, Bibliothek und Web, oft oder beides wenig nutzen.

    Abstract
    Die Museen in Westfalen-Lippe haben 1994 mit dem Vorhaben begonnen, die wissenschaftliche Dokumentation ihrer Objekte und Exponate auf ein einheitliches EDV-Datenbanksystem umzustellen. Anhand der regionalhistorischen Sammlung des Kreismuseums Wewelsburg bei Paderborn werden die besonderen Anforderungen, die sich für Dokumentation und Datenbank im Museumswesen ergeben, dargestellt. Der Datenverbund im Rahmen des angestrebten Zentralarchivs beim Westfälischen Museumsamt wird als Besonderheit positiv hervorgehoben, aber auch auf die hierfür notwendigen inhaltlichen und technischen Weiterentwicklungen hingewiesen

    Abstract
    Bevor Informationsangebot und inhaltliche Struktur des Deutschen Bildungsservers (DBS) anhand der wichtigsten Features dieses "nationalen Webportals" zum deutschen Bildungswesen konkreter erläutert werden, einige Hintergrunddaten zur Entstehungsgeschichte, zum bildungspolitischen Kontext und zu dem den DBS tragenden Kooperationsverbund. Das seinerzeit durch das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) geförderte Pilotprojekt Deutscher Bildungsserver wurde seit August 1996 an der Abteilung Pädagogik und Informatik der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) entwickelt. Mit der im Oktober 1999 erfolgten Einrichtung einer zentralen Geschäftsstelle am Deutschen Institut für Internationale pädagogische Forschung (DIPF) in Frankfurt a. M. ist der DBS in das Stadium kontinuierlicher institutioneller Förderung eingetreten. Ein Steuerungsgremium aus Vertretern des Bundes und der Länder sowie Sachverständigen begleitet die weitere Entwicklung des Projektes. Die Geschäftsstelle am DIPF, zuständig für die Gesamtkoordination und fünf der momentan sechs zentralen Redaktionsbereiche, kooperiert eng mit der Abteilung Pädagogik und Informatik der HU, der weiterhin die technische Betreuung und Weiterentwicklung des Servers obliegt, sowie dem in München ansässigen Institut für Film und Bild in Wissenschaft und Unterricht (FWU), das redaktionell verantwortlich zeichnet für das Themengebiet Schule sowie für das dem DBS assoziierte Bildungsportal Schulweb

    Abstract
    Der Artikel beschreibt die inhaltliche Konzeption und die praktische Organisation der informationswissenschaftlichen Lehre an der Universität Hildesheim. Im Zentrum des Artikels stehen dabei Zielsetzung, Struktur und Inhalte des konsekutiven Bachelor- und Master-Studiengangs "Internationales Informationsmanagement" (IIM) an der Universität Hildesheim. Es werden aber auch die Beiträge der Informationswissenschaft zu der Lehre in anderen Studiengängen der Universität Hildesheim aufgezeigt. Bei der Beschreibung des Studiengangs "Internationales Informationsmanagement" legt der Artikel dabei den Schwerpunkt auf die informationswissenschaftlichen Teildisziplinen. Er diskutiert die Prinzipien der Auswahl der informationswissenschaftlichen Studieninhalte und zeigt das Zusammenwirken unterschiedlicher Lehrveranstaltungsformen, die für ihre Vermittlung gewählt wurden. Ein besonderer Aspekt stellt dabei die Internationalisierung des Studiums dar, dem das Institut für Informationswissenschaft und Sprachtechnologie große Bedeutung beimisst.

    Abstract
    Der 'Ort ohne Raum' ist eine Galerie im WWW, die versucht, die Nutzungsstruktur des WWW mit meist (hyper-)textueller Information zu interaktiven Anwendungen zu erweitern, in die der Anwender selbst eingreifen kann. Das Ziel ist nicht eine einfach Reproduktion des Konzeptes einer Galerie in einem anderen Medium, sondern die Spezifik des Mediums soll den Betrachter zu grundsätzlich anderen und erweiterten Interaktions-, Manipulations- und Navigationsmöglichkeiten führen. Der 'Ort ohne Raum' entsteht seit 1995 als Kooperationsprojekt zwischen den Fachbereichen Medienkunst der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig und der Abteilung für Automatische Sprachverarbeitung am Institut für Informatik der Universität Leipzig

    In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Computerlinguistik der Universität Zürich (ICL UZH) lancierte die ETH-Bibliothek Zürich ein Pilotprojekt im Bereich automatisierter Textanreicherung. Grundlage für den Piloten bildeten Volltextdateien der Schweizer Zeitschriftenplattform E-Periodica. Anhand eines ausgewählten Korpus dieser OCR-Daten wurden mit automatisierten Verfahren Tests in den Bereichen OCR-Korrektur, Erkennung von Personen-, Orts- und Ländernamen sowie Verlinkung identifizierter Personen mit der Gemeinsamen Normdatei GND durchgeführt. Insgesamt wurden sehr positive Resultate erzielt. Das verwendete System dient nun als Grundlage für den weiteren Kompetenzausbau der ETH-Bibliothek auf diesem Gebiet. Das gesamte bestehende Angebot der Plattform E-Periodica soll automatisiert angereichert und um neue Funktionalitäten erweitert werden. Dies mit dem Ziel, Forschenden einen Mehrwert bei der Informationsbeschaffung zu bieten. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden Projektinhalt, Methodik und Resultate erläutert sowie das weitere Vorgehen skizziert.
