    Abstract
Describes an innovative new library and information science course for undergraduates, at Sheffield University, Department of Information Studies, involving computer mediated communication and employing the Internet as the learning environment for courses, providing both the technologies for communication between participants, and a key information resource. Students gain practical experience of a variety of communication technologies, such as the use of UseNet newsgroups to support project group conferencing

    Abstract
The Internet is a complex system and the machanics of Internet software and the information seeking process can not be taught in isolation. Information skills should be taught in the context of teaching about the software and hardware. Gives examples of how trainers can weave these skills together

    Abstract
Reports results of a survey of US library schools to investigate the adoption, impact, and role of networking concepts and resources, such as the Internet, in the library and information science curriculum. Findings indicate that, to a large degree, educators have kept up with recent trends and tools in networking in a variety of courses. There was overwhelming consensus on the importance of networked information resources and access tools but less agreement on their places in the library and information science curriculum

    Abstract
In library schools, aspects of the Internet and of electronic publishing and electronic document delivery are dealt with in varying degrees and in relation to various library tasks. With an emphasis upon activities in Germany, categorizes instructions units (Course units and continuing education events) for preparing students to use new technologies and networked information sources. Discusses the relevancy of such instructional units for content, method of instruction, practicality and level and integration within training programmes and/or the post-graduate learning experience

    Abstract
Outlines the plans of the new UK Labour Government for information and communications technology in education. Use of multimedia in schools is essential. We need to promote self-starting lifelong learners and help to overcome lack of teacher confidence. The Government is proposing to create a National Grid for Learning, and Internet based resource available to the whole education community. Its initial aim is to help improve teachers' confidence and is exploring ways to help in choosing software

Provides a selective bibliography of training materials available on the Internet as a guide to the Internet itself. The Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) and ACRL's Instruction Section (ACRL-IS) are locating a site to house a virtual collection of Internet user education and training materials. Describes course materials; online courses and tutorials; guides; subject guides; and newsgroups and listserves

    Abstract
Investigates evolving notions and expressions of community and networks, in the context of educational culture which is engaged in the process of discovering the opportunities and challenges presented by communications and information technologies. Parallel to this is the task of identifying key elements or threads that might be common to a wide diversity of educational electronic communities
