    Abstract
Describes methods whereby the process of retrieving bibliographic information from one electronic source (e.g. on-line data base) and its subsequent insertion into another data base, on a personal computer, can be managed more efficiently using specialist software. Describes how one of the available packages is being used at Portsmouth Polytechnic Library, U.K.

    Abstract
Describes the methodology used to evaluate 5 examples of bibliographic management software currently available. Provides a profile of the Library of the National Assemply of Quebec and the services it offers: reference, research, and reconstruction of debates. Identifies the problems it faces and presents an evaluation of its technical needs, needs relating to data control and bibliographies, and staff needs. Analyzes specialist information and the preliminary list of chosen programmes and compares the software using the following criteria: ease of use; assistance; customization; research; networking capabilities; transferabiblity; and price. Considers reasons for the ultimate choice of library master and discusses the question of staff training

    Abstract
Overviews database applications in libraries. Explains the 2 basic types of databases, flat-file and relational, outlines the uses and advantages of relationship systems. Librarians can utilise a number of software packages for database management and design a database in cooperation with a programmer. The librarian needs to be involved in the conceptual and external level of database design. Offers advice on finding a database designer. Outlines ideas for library related applications of database software
