    Abstract
I outline a major segment of the history of the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) in Hungary and all related important events and activities. Significant and committed specialists who played prominent role on a national and international level are also mentioned. It's not an overstatement, that the usage and publications of the UDC in Hungary are significant milestones in the international history of UDC. The usage of UDC has been very widespread and it is found in different types of libraries. People who were responsible for the developing of information retrieval systems and quality of these methods were very engaged and participated in international activities. There were several huge libraries such as special, academic, municipal and national library where UDC has been employed since quite early on and the leaders of these pioneer libraries travelled widely and were active in international researches and practices.

    Abstract
Marc Bloch's famous methodological essay, The Historian's Craft, contains many relevant considerations on knowledge organization. These have been selected and grouped into four main themes: terminology problems in history; principles for the organization of historical knowledge, with special reference to the genetic principle; sources of historical information, to be found not only in archives but also in very different media and contexts; and the nature and boundaries of history as a discipline. Analysis of them shows that knowledge organization is an important part of historians' work, and suggests that it can be especially fruitful when a cross-medial, interdisciplinary approach is adopted.

    Abstract
This paper uses facet analysis to address the classification of responsive behaviours exhibited by persons in long-term care facilities suffering from advanced dementia. An analysis of the Canadian PIECES Framework shows that facet analysis is implicitly embedded in the reasoning procedure prescribed; furthermore the facet structure is used as a surrogate for the patient's cognition, providing access to the person's medical, social, emotional and personal history. In this way, facet analysis may serve as a means of enabling family members and caregivers outside the gerontology field to deal with responsive behaviours in difficult care situations. However, the paper suggests facet analysis is useful, not because it "improves" the work of gerontologists and behaviour specialists, but rather because it captures and illustrate their knowledge in a way that does justice to the complexity and frequent inconsistency of real-life caregiving situations.

    Abstract
The concept of integrative levels as an organizing principle for knowledge organization has a long history in library and information science. Traditionally, the model of a nested hierarchy in which each higher level transcends and includes the lower levels has been applied to the ontological dimension of human knowledge as "levels of being" in order to provide a basic schema for classifying different kinds of world phenomena. In this paper, a complementary application of the integrative levels concept for the epistemological dimension as "levels of knowing" is proposed. It will be argued that under the condition of epistemic pluralism, knowledge organization theory should take the epistemic frameworks adopted by authors or creators of documents into account such as modes of thought or worldview structures as they emerge and transform in individual development as well as in human history. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to outline the concept of integrative levels of knowing as an or ganizing principle for a classification of viewpoints.

    Abstract
Scholarly domains have been analyzed using various tools and techniques to reveal complex genealogies of scholarship, authorship, citation and ontology, resulting in not only deeper knowledge of each area studied, but in a better developed set of methodologies for domain exploration in general. While domain analysis itself is being used frequently in LIS, there remain many areas against which domain analytical tools have not yet been applied. This is the case with encyclopedic collections of knowledge, such as that which is being developed as the Encyclopedia of Milwaukee (EMKE) within the history department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. This descriptive study will analyze resources categorized under race and ethnicity from a comprehensive bibliography on the history of metropolitan Milwaukee that was designed to serve those who would research and write entries for the EMKE. Bibliometric and analytic techniques are employed to explore the intension and extension of the domain as it is developing.
