    Abstract
Articles contributed to a report of the results of project ELVYN, sponsored by the British Library Research and Development Department and conducted by Loughborough University, in conjunction with the Institute of Physics Publishing and SCONUL, to test the practicalities and potential pitfalls of publishers delivering periodicals electronically to libraries. Presents the results and sets them in the context of current developments in electronic publishing

    Abstract
The DAISY Consortium created the first digital talking book (DTB) and this is now known worldwide as the DAISY format. The DAISY DTB is the application of existing worldwide standards used to define the next generation of information technology for people who are blind and print disabled. The acronym DAISY, digital audio-based information system, is a name both for a reading system and for the consortium of libraries, non-profit organizations and for-profit Friends of the Consortium around the world that spearhead the development of the International standard. This article will briefly trace the history of DAISY's development and go on to explain the current activities and future plans for the single worldwide standard.

    Abstract
After a year of development, the library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has launched a repository, called the Illinois Data Bank (https://databank.illinois.edu/), to provide Illinois researchers with a free, self-serve publishing platform that centralizes, preserves, and provides persistent and reliable access to Illinois research data. This article presents a holistic view of development by discussing our overarching technical, policy, and interface strategies. By openly presenting our design decisions, the rationales behind those decisions, and associated challenges this paper aims to contribute to the library community's work to develop repository services that meet growing data preservation and sharing needs.

    Abstract
Summarizes the development of electronic publishing since the early 60s, when computers were used merely to produce conventional printed products, to the present move toward networked scholarly publishing

    Abstract
Notes that the development of standards for electronic resources in the humanities has not kept pace with the phenomenal growth in their provision and their different data formats, software tools, and access mechanisms. Examines the issues involved in the development of national and international standards for electronic publishing in the humanities, from the perspective of producers and users

    Abstract
Reviews some of the research and development, currently undertaken in the USA, to establish the electronic publishing of periodicals. Concludes, with regret, that the prices of academic periodicals will probably not fall as a result of their conversion to electronic form, but is still optimistic about the eventual future outlook

    Abstract
An important development in the processing and formatting of text is the creation and use of markup languages. An area receiving attention has been descriptive markup languages, which allow description of a text element or document in a way which is independent of its final output and form. Greater attentio should be given to the creation of survey quwstionnaires, and any comprehensive markup langugae standard should include markups for supporting this application. Examines this need and explains why a markup language would support the survey application and how it would extend the utility of the markup approach. Proposes a set of markups for survey creation which would serve as extensions to existing markup standards. The advantages and benefits of markup command languages as compared to traditional direct manipulation WYSIWYG approaches are also discussed
