    Abstract
Since 1985 the university has had computerized cataloguing and a network of cataloguing centres. The library uses SISIS online, with 2 different OPAC systems. A BS2000 dialogue cooperative now includes all branches, resulting in unified and rational cataloguing development. The catalogue OPAC system ELIS (Erlangen Library Information System) developed originally as an inhouse informal system. SISIS incorporates a loan system and is stored online by BVB

    Abstract
Stanford University's Socrates II and University of California at Berkeley's Pathfinder are 2 USA World Wide Web based online publication access catalogues under development. They differ in their design language (how an interface functionally and visually communicates to the users). Evaluates each system's interface design and their ability to communicate functionality to users: analyzes design in terms of: colour, buttons, metaphors, layout, and basic and advanced search modes. Concludes that the design languages of both systems have the right directive and have the potential to evolve

    Abstract
Provides an overview of microformat set problems and discusses guidelines developed by Auburn University, Alabama, for loading bibliographic records for sets. Considers downloading individual records and tapeloading entire sets. Suggests categorizing and prioritising microform sets to decide which sets should be analyzed. Current and projected usage, strengths of the existing collection, other means of access and record qiality should be evaluated when choosing which microform sets to analyze. Communication and ccoperation between the reference, cataloguing and automation departments, and the librarians responsible for microform collection development and acquisition is the key to ensuring catalogue integrity and improved access to microformatted materials

    Abstract
Describes the design and continuing development of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library Information Workstation, which provides the primary, in-library user acces to ILLINET Online Plus, the library's extended OPAC system. Briefly describes the automated library information resources and information processing environment as they have influenced the design and development of the Library Information Workstation. Discusses its philosophy and approach in the context of relevant information access issues and user needs and requirements. Features of the current Library Information Workstation implementation are then described using illustrations focused particularly on integrated access to local (resident on individual workstations) information fields and an integrated end user interface for bibliographic database searching. Ongoing development plans also are discussed briefly

    Abstract
The OPAC has developed into an information providing tool capable of many varied tasks. Maps this development. Discusses the interface between the OPAC and the casual or inexperienced user and the expending use of networks. Surveays the growth of OPACs and shows that OPACs have developed a number of features from information retrieval. Assesses areas of further research

    Abstract
The MacNOTIS interface development and test used the Apple Macintosh, HyperCard, and MitemView communications Software to develop and test an intuitive interface to NOTIS systems. While the concept and design were viewed favorably by the users, technical and speed issues made the interface too slow for widespread use. MacNOTIS pointed the way to several interface enhancements that should be incorporated in future NOTIS user interfaces
