Abstract

Klassifikationen sind in Bibliotheken heute wichtiger als je zuvor. Sie eignen sich nicht nur hervorragend für die physische Anordnung von Büchern und anderen Medienwerken, sondern sind genauso erfolgreich dafür einsetzbar, große Datenmengen in Katalogen und anderen Nachweisinstrumenten zu strukturieren und sinnvoll nutzbar zu machen. Der Band gibt zunächst eine Einführung in die bibliothekarische Klassifikationstheorie und stellt dann die in Bibliotheken des deutschen Sprachraums überregional eingesetzten Universalklassifikationen vor. Er informiert außerdem über die Nutzung von Klassifikationen in Katalogen und Suchsystemen sowie die Frage der semantischen Interoperabilitätim Kontext der Wissensorganisation. Ziel des Bandes ist es, eine Übersicht über die gegenwärtig in Bibliotheken des deutschen Sprachraums überregional eingesetzten Universalklassifikationen zu geben. Die Fülle an vorhandenen Klassifikationen bedingt die thematische Konzentration auf Universalklassifikationen; reine Fachklassifikationen sind nicht Gegenstand der Darstellung, finden jedoch in einzelnen Beiträgen Erwähnung.

Abstract

Bibliothekarische Sacherschließung stellt zunächst eine praktische Aufgabe dar. Gleichwohl sollte bibliothekarische Sacherschließung als Ganzes und in einem wesentlichen Teilbereich wie der Systematischen Freihandaufstellung auch in ihrer historischen Entwicklung und Bedeutung gesehen werden. Ein bedeutender Aspekt bleibt die notwendige Einordnung in das größere Umfeld, vor allem der Bibliotheksgeschichte, aber auch der Wissenschaftsgeschichte. Schwerpunkte bilden hier die Geschichte der Dezimalmethode mit den Teilbereichen UDK und DDC und die Nachkriegsgeschichte der klassifikatorischen Erschließung an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken Deutschlands, einschließlich der neuen Entwicklung der Verbundarbeit in der Klassifikation. Bedeutend sind weiter die Beispiele für den Vergleich von Aufstellungsklassifikationen als Annäherung an eine zu entwickelnde Methodik. Dabei stellen sich auch Fragen des Inhalts ausgewählter Klassifikationssysteme in historischer Betrachtung. Dies entspricht bereits dem Bibliotheksplan 73, der immerhin Fragen der Bibliotheksgeschichte und der Klassifikation zu den genuinen Bereichen bibliothekswissenschaftlicher Forschung rechnet.

Lorenz die bibliothekarische Sacherschließung im gesamten und stellt sie aus der Sicht der historischen Entwicklung und Bedeutung dar. Es geht ihm darum, historische Kenntnisse zu nutzen, um Erfahrungen nachzuvollziehen und Fehler weitgehend zu vermeiden bzw. zu minimieren. So bildet die Einordnung in das größere Umfeld der Bibliotheksgeschichte und der Wissenschaftsgeschichte einen wesentlichen Faktor. Wichtige internationale Klassifikationen sowie Neuentwicklungen an neueren deutschen Universitätsbibliotheken versieht der Autor allerdings mit kritischen Anmerkungen betreffend die Unterschiede innerhalb von Systematiken. Dem folgt eine Gegenüberstellung von Aufstellungssystematiken bzw. Beispielen für den Vergleich von Aufstellungsklassifikationen. B. Lorenz beweist in seinen "Notizen" als "Wechselspiel" deutlich, wie untrennbar die Geschichte der bibliothekarischen Sacherschließung von der Geschichte der Wissenschaften ist. Letztendlich kommt der Autor übereinstimmend mit Klara Erdei zu dem Schluß, "dass der Online-Katalog nicht den Untergang sondern eher eine Renaissance der bibliothekarischen Klassifikation mit sich bringen kann: eine noch benutzerfreundlichere, vielseitigere Realisierung der systematischen Erschließung und Suche". Das vorliegende Werk ist keine technische Auflistung von formalen, pragmatischen oder strukturellen Fragen und es ist auch keine weitere Darstellung des Wesens der Systematik. Vielmehr ist es dem Autor erfolgreich gelungen, den Fragen der hierarchisch höchst- bzw. hochstehenden Gliederungen und des Inhalts ausgewählter Klassifikationssysteme in historischer Betrachtung nachzugehen."

Abstract

In the Netherlands dissatisfaction with the classification schedules and subject indexing headings assigned to records by the National Bibliographic Service has led librarians to re-arrange their collections in broad reader-interest categories. With the introduction of online public catalogues in libraries and their provision of multiple entry terms for each item, the problems of conflictions in shelf location are largely eliminated. The internal layout of each library may place constraints on such radical reorganisation. Howver, the merging of the children's and adults' sections can be useful in offering children a greater depth of knowledge. A further useful arrangement may be the combination of fiction and non-fiction collections in broad subject catalogues

Abstract

Reply to an article by B. Schaap and W. Dussel in Bibliotheek en samenleving 19(1990) no.4, in which it is suggested that the SISO classification used in adult sections of Dutch public libraries, may be adapted for use in children's libraries. However, experience shows that SISO's highly-structured nater makes it difficult for both adults and children to understand. Moreover, because related aspects of the same subject are scattered throughout the scheme's main categories, the user must first understand how to use a library's cataloue. However, a more useful system is to arrange books in broad categories according to children's interests, e.g. football and horses. To enable sucha method to succeed public libraries and school resource centres must agree a common scheme

Abstract

Dieser Beitrag behandelt die in Österreich und Deutschland in Öffentlichen Bibliotheken weit verbreiteten Klassifikationen. Dies sind in Deutschland im Wesentlichen die Systematik für Bibliotheken (SfB), die Allgemeine Systematik für Öffentliche Bibliotheken (ASB), die daraus entwickelte Systematik der Stadtbibliothek Duisburg (SSD), die Klassifikation für Allgemeinbibliotheken (KAB) sowie die beiden konfessionell geprägten und verwendeten Klassifikationen Sachbuchsystematik für Katholische öffentliche Büchereien (SKB) und Systematik für evangelische Büchereien (SEB). In Österreich wird weitestgehend die Österreichische Systematik für öffentliche Bibliotheken (ÖSÖB) verwendet. Diese Klassifikationen werden unter dem Gesichtspunkt ihrer formalen Eigenschaften (Hierarchien, Klassenbeschreibungen) und unter der Fragestellung ihrer inhaltlichen Eignung für den Anwendungsbereich untersucht.

Abstract

Examines the events which led the Swedish Library Association (SAB) in 1921 to publish a unique Swedish classification system, the SAB system. Its origin is set in the social context of public library development since 1800 and seen in the light of Bostrom's philosophy of rational idealism. This had consequences for stock and classification practice in parish, workers' and study circle libraries. From 1915, SAB began debating classification at annual meetings and in the committee set up in 1917. Library consultants played a major role in the system's development; ahich was created for librarians, not users. The main reason for creating a unique system seems to have been a desire to find a common tool for stock acquisition and organisation which was based on Swedish practice and would function in the Swedish setting. This might explain why Dewey, based on American public library ideas, was rejected. But the picture is complex and can be differently interpretated
