    Abstract
Discusses the special requirements of bibliographic instruction in special libraries where goals and objectives are norrowly focused and the librarian is often required to do much of the work for users. Emphasizes that the primary objective should be to make users aware of what the library has to offer rather than training users in the mechanics of library use. Discusses who should be trained, what should be taught, where training should take place, how training in a management reference service should differ to that in a technical reference service, the use of SD services, training in patent literature searching and in online database searching. Concludes with a brief discussion of future trends and directions
