    Abstract
The popularity of CD-ROM products has caused librarians to become more active participants in the bibliographic instruction process. To meet the instructional needs of users, a variety of teaching methods has been explored at the Purdy/Kresge Library, Wayne Stare University, Detroit, Michigan, where 4 CD-Rom systems-ERIC, PsycLIT, Compact Disclosure, Social Science Index (SSI)-have also been purchased. The teaching methods include: developing instructional leaflets; offering individual instruction on demand or by appointment; scheduled group sessions; course integrated training sessions. Describes these activities and reports select results of a preliminary survey, undertaken in Spring 88, designed to evaluate user reaction to the library's CD-ROM products.

    Abstract
The challange of developing effective instructional programs for teaching online catalog use faces an increasing number of libraries. Much individual, and perhaps redundant, effort is being devoted by librarians to developing these services. This article describes as aspect of a research project conducted at Northwestern University designed to provide a model of online catalog instruction that could be modified and adopted by other academic libraries

    Abstract
Arizona State University installed the Tandem-based CARL integrated library system in 1987. This software supports all the traditional functions of an integrated system plus the ability to act as a platform for creating or loading multiple databases. The functionality of CARL software for this purpose is described, a brief rundown of databases loaded at ASU is provided, and the criteria for selecting databases is given. Public response and library instruction issues for locally loaded databases are briefly examined as is the future of the electronic library

    Abstract
An important part of cataloging education in library schools is descriptive cataloging, which is concerned with preparing the descriptions, entries and name headings for library materials. Although debate occurs over the primacy of theory and principles, or practices, and whether descriptive cataloging or subject analysis should receive the most emphasis, there is general agreement that all students need instruction in the processes of cataloging. The descriptive cataloging segment of the curriculum of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Washington, is described to illustrate one approach to cataloging education.

    Abstract
Account of the preliminary stages in the Bibliothèque National project to produce data from the national bibliography, the Bibliographie de France, on CD-ROM. The pilot disc was produced in collaboration with the British Library, using software developed by Online Computers, and tested out in 60 establishments in 1988. Results of this experiment showed up problems in installation, and user dissatisfaction with the indexing system, formats, headings, and instruction manual. Overall, however, user feedback indicated a good market for CD-ROM, as a complement to other sources of bibliographical data. The 1st full edition, with 380.000 records covering 1975-89, was produced in May 89, and a 2nd edition is scheduled for Oct 89. Discussions are currently in hand to develop European standards for CD-ROM, to be used by all national libraries.

    Abstract
This paper presents one approach to the teaching of both the basic and advanced courses in cataloging. In addressing the basic course, short-term and long-term objectives of the course are identified for four categories of students-Cataloging Specialists, General/Special Librarians, Non-Cataloging Specialists and Non-Library Information Specialists. The philosophy underlying this mode of instruction places emphasis upon group interaction and making the course enjoyable for the student, thus increasing interest while imparting more information and better preparing the four groups of students for work in organizing information. Stress is placed upon student participation and the use of realistic situations to instruct and evaluate student performance.
