    Abstract
Reach for 'Future libraries' when they say you don't need staff, space, or collections; when they tell you to get with the all-electronic future and when they tell you that the virtual library will do it all for less. Crawford and Gorman find much of this future vision to be virtual nonsense and, in fact, devastating to the cultural mission of libraries. Thsi volume is a valuable antidote to the flood of hyperbole about libraries without walls, electronic texts and virtual collections which we have seen in the past 2 years

    Abstract
Eureka is the end user oriented search service designed by the Research Libraries Group (RLG) as a convenient way for libraries to provide campus wide or library wide access to the Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN) or other large OPACs of bibliographic databases. Eureka's design draws on extensive study of online catalogue practices and on advice from librarians and feedback from users. The service was designed so that untrained users without printed documentation could successfully search a database of more than 20 million titles within 3 minutes of first encounterning the system. The process of designing and developing Eureka offers some lessons for others planning systems for better end user access
