    Abstract
The Norwegian Dewey is a shortened version of the 19th ed, Changes are now so comprehensive that a new Norwegian ed. is necessary. The Norwegian Dewey is widely used in public and school libraries. While the large special libraries use the English version, they supplement it with the Norwegian edition and use it as a source of subject headings. A seminar held in April 1997 in Oslo discussed the issue and agreed on the need for a new Norwegian edition. The National Library should in future have editorial responsibility, but the next publication, expected in 1999, will be the Norwegian Library Association's task

    Abstract
BIBSYS is now the central bibliographic database for the 4 universities and over 30 research libraries. In 1992 it was developed to allow researchers to resister information directly in the base and this year it will be available as a union catalogue of research documentation. It will eventually be freely accessible without password and all searchers will automatically be offered information on Norwegian research projects, but success depends on development of a network of cooperating institutions
