- Abstract
- In 1992 the universities of Groningen, Leiden, Utrecht and Tilburg in the Netherlands participated in a study sponsored by the SURF Foundation to examine the feasibility of document digitisation and transmission. The study revealed a lack of use of the technology and highlighted the problems of copyright. As a result of the preliminary study the SURFdoc project was initiated in March 1993 to promote cooperation and examine readers' reactions to such systems.
