    Abstract
The most important bibliographic databases in Italy are surveyed. Among them are the Italian national bibliography, BNI, and the database devoted to Italian books in print, ALICE. Also included are specialized databases such as those in the fields of law, education, economics and science and technology. Because of the lack of an adequate infrastructure for online access, their widespread use has been delayed. However, recent developments, in particular the implementation of the national library service, SBN, promise improvement in the situation.

    Abstract
As part of a largerstudy concerning the scatter of library and information science (LIS) documents in bibliographic databases, this paper focuses on the publishing sources of a sample of 822 highly relevant documents. 67% were journal articles with the largest subject categories outside of LIS being medicine / health sciences, business, education, and computer science. Other journal titles ranged from popular and trade magazines to scholarly journals spanning the disciplinary map. The largest number of nonjournal items were conference reports, government reports, bibliographic resource guides, monographs, and nongovernment agency reports. These were scattered mostly between technological and medical databases. The results show that LIS is an interdisciplinary field, borrowing and supplying information to and from other disciplines. Articles written about the application of LIS concepts to other fields are often published in the journals of those other fields, not in LIS journals

    Abstract
This article describes how the original ERIC was established as a conventional, centralized information center within the Office of Education in 1964, and how this initial ERIC was transformed from into a decentralized national system about 18 months later. The history of the two ERICs also illustrates how knowledge and expertise - in this case, that represented by advances in information systems technology and its applications - combined with interpersonal relationships within a bureaucracy, federal funding decisions, and organizational changes to shape the development of a major national information service. The time period covered by the article is from 1959, when planning for the first ERIC began, to June 1967, when the decentralized system became fully operational. Most of the description and analysis, however, is limited to the 1965-66 period, when the decentralized system was conceptualized and implemented. Important developments in ERIC since 1967 are also described
