- Abstract
- Es wird versucht, quantitative Werte zur Messung der Informationskompetenz von Volkswirtschaften zu entwickeln. Zudem sollen Korrelationen zwischen der Informationskompetenz und der wirtschaftlichen Leistungsfähigkeit darüber Auskunft geben, wie Gesamtwirtschaft und Inforinationswirtschaft eines Landes zusammenhängen. Operationalisierung. "Informationskompetenz" wird durch den Umsatz auf nationalen Business-toBusiness-Märkten operationalisiert. Abgeleitete Größen sind Pro-KopfImport- und Exportvolumen, Informationsproduktion und -konsumtion (insgesamt und pro Kopf) sowie der Anteil der Informationswirtschaft am jeweiligen nationalen Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP). Datenbasis. Im Rahmen der "Member States' Study" der Europäischen Kommission wurden für den gesamten Europäischen Wirtschaftsraum (EWR; Staaten der Europäischen Union sowie Norwegen und Island) für die Jahre 1994 und 1997 Umsatzzahlen der 17 Länder erhoben. Diese Zahlen wurden auf Plausibilität überprüft und unserer Fragestellung zugrundegelegt. Ergebnisse. Der Anteil der Informationswirtschaft am BIP ist derart gering (EWR: 0,070% im Jahr 1997), daß er nahezu ignoriert werden kann. Die Korrelation zwischen dem BIP pro Kopf und der Informationskonsumtion pro Kopf ist jedoch äußerst hoch (+0,715 im Jahr 1994 und +0,642 im Jahr 1997), ebenso die Korrelation zwischen BIP pro Kopf und Informationsimport pro Kopf (+0,588 im Jahr 1994 sowie +0,583 im Jahr 1997)

- Abstract
- Von ergriffenen, vertanen und immer wieder neuen Chancen und von der Entwicklung der Information Professionals zu den, ja was? Monitoring the Information Industry 1988 - 2007 und 2000 - 2007. Jetzt eingeleitet als: "Der Mutmacher" mit dem Text: Als ich vor zehn Jahren mein Referat zum "Entschwinden der Branche" anlässlich der Buchmesse 2007 redigierte und fortschrieb und zum "Trend des Jahres" erhob, hatte ich so etwas, wiewohl mit den Jahren skeptischer geworden, wie "Aufrütteln", "Anpacken" und "Die Ärmel hochkrempeln" im Sinn. Wenn ich diesen Beitrag heute nach einem Jahrzehnt noch einmal veröffentliche, so deshalb, weil seine Aktualität durch den Zahn der Zeit kaum geschmälert worden ist. Damit verbunden ist die Lage der Branche nicht besser geworden. Was vor allem würde ich heute anders schreiben? Heute würde ich eher versuchen, Trost zu spenden und Mut zu machen: Ja, wir haben Potenziale. Ja, wir können etwas bewegen, wenn nicht allein, dann doch zu zweit oder zu dritt. Die Chancen liegen 2017 immer noch auf der Straße. Wir müssen sie nur ergreifen.

- Abstract
- Reports results of the 1994 Member States Study (MSSTUDY) of the supply of and markets for electronic information services (EIS) in the 17 countries of the European Union, based on the methodological approach developed by the DGD. The surveys were conducted in each country by anational institute using the DGD methodology. 2 differnt approaches were followed: a market approach, measuring expenditures for EISs for professional purposes in the 17 countries; and a supplier approach, measuring the worldwide revenues of suppliers of EISs for professional purposes from the 17 countries. Results from the MSSTUDY are gathered from the supply and demand sides of these markets and aggregated to a European picture
