    Abstract
While knowledge management is seen to be the biggest thing to hit the information profession since the Internet, the concept is surrounded by confusion. Traces the progress of knowledge on the information continuum which extends from data to informed decision. The reason for which knowledge management has suddenly become inluential is that its principal proponents now are not information professionals but management consultants seeking to retain their intellectual capital. Explains the reasons for this, the practical meaning of knowledge management and what information professionals should be doing to take advantage of the vogue

    Abstract
IRM is a major management reform that deals with information as an organizational resource that is planned, managed and controlled in ways similar to other resources, such as human resources. Describes the characteristics of IRM and its relationship with Knowledge Management (KM). Describes also the characteristics of IRM and KM and their influence on its executives: the Chief Knowledge Officers; and compares them with the old ones: IRM and Chief Information Officers

    Abstract
The employees of an organization often use a personal hierarchical classification scheme to organize digital documents that are stored on their own workstations. As this may make it hard for other employees to retrieve these documents, there is a risk that the organization will lose track of needed documentation. Furthermore, the inherent boundaries of such a hierarchical structure require making arbitrary decisions about which specific criteria the classification will b.e based on (for instance, the administrative activity or the document type, although a document can have several attributes and require classification in several classes).A faceted classification model to support corporate information organization is proposed. Partially based on Ranganathan's facets theory, this model aims not only to standardize the organization of digital documents, but also to simplify the management of a document throughout its life cycle for both individuals and organizations, while ensuring compliance to regulatory and policy requirements.

    Abstract
Introduces a knowledge management oriented view of decisions and decisioning as a complement to classical perspectives and as a contribution to understanding computer based possibilities for relaxing strains on decision makers. The perspective includes a model of knowledge management activities performed by a decision maker and a taxonomy of knowledge types. This leads to a characterization of decision support system purposes, traits and potentials that offer a basis for new research into computerized possibilities for knowledge management

    Abstract
Explores the newly emerging information discipline of records management, focusing on its current status in the UK where it is represented by a range of sector specific and general organizations for information professionals. While records management involves some skills and knowledge which are different from those already mastered by library and information professionals, there are significant overlaps in terms of cataloguing, classification, indexing, identifying and meeting user needs and the challenge of dealing with information in electronic form. Concludes that, in the changing and sometimes shrinking market of of some of the more traditional library sectors, records management may offer the opportunity for information professionals to develop or shift their career path while remaining within the discipline of information management

    Abstract
The emergence of Knowledge Management (KM) over the last decade has triggered the question how or even whether this new management discipline can be distinguished from the established field of Information Management (IM). In this paper we critically examine this demarcation issue from two angles. First we will investigate to what extent the difference between IM and KM can be anchored an a conceptual distinction between their respective objects: information and knowledge. After having shown that this widely adopted strategy promises little success, we will shift our attention to an examination of the fundamental objectives or guiding principles behind both disciplines. Seen from this angle we argue that KM in order to foster organizational learning, innovation and strategy flexibility, should adopt a postmodern epistemological perspective that is geared to the management of incommensurability and difference within and between organizations.

    Abstract
Identifies some of the fundamental issues for the future records management, and assesses their relevance for the future. Considers traditional records management and suggests a new record keeping approach which impacts directly upon the organization by ensuring records are properly created according to the organization's needs. Stresses the importance of making better use of new technologies. Important issues are: the myth of the information manager, implementation of records management standards, replacing the life cycle approach with one of a records continuum, new relationships between the archival and records management community, and development of competency based standards
