    Abstract
Describes techniques for automatic construction of dictionaries for use in large-scale foreign language tutoring (FLT) and interlingual machine translation (MT) systems. The dictionaries are based on a language independent representation called lexical conceptual structure (LCS). Demonstrates that synonymous verb senses share distribution patterns. Shows how the syntax-semantics relation can be used to develop a lexical acquisition approach that contributes both toward the enrichment of existing online resources and toward the development of lexicons containing more complete information than is provided in any of these resources alone. Describes the structure of the LCS and shows how this representation is used in FLT and MT. Focuses on the problem of building LCS dictionaries for large-scale FLT and MT. Describes authoring tools for manual and semi-automatic construction of LCS dictionaries. Presents an approach that uses linguistic techniques for building word definitions automatically. The techniques have been implemented as part of a set of lixicon-development tools used in the MILT FLT project

    Abstract
AutoSlog is a system that addresses the knowledge engineering bottleneck for information extraction. AutoSlog automatically creates domain specific dictionaries for information extraction, given an appropriate training corpus. Describes experiments with AutoSlog in terrorism, joint ventures and microelectronics domains. Compares the performance of AutoSlog across the 3 domains, discusses the lessons learned and presents results from 2 experiments which demonstrate that novice users can generate effective dictionaries using AutoSlog

    Abstract
We are living in a society in which using Internet is a part of everyday life. People use Internet at schools, universities, at work in small and big companies. The Web gives huge number of information from every possible field of knowledge, and one of the problems that one can face by searching through the web is the fact that this information may be written in many different languages that one does not understand. That is why web site designers came up with an idea to create on-line dictionaries to make surfing on the Web easier. The most popular are bilingual dictionaries (in Poland the most known are: LING.pl, LEKSYKA.pl, and Dict.pl), but one can find also multilingual ones (Logos.com, Lexicool.com). Nowadays, when using Internet in education becomes more and more popular, on-line dictionaries are the best supplement for a good quality work. The purpose of this paper is to present, compare and recommend the best (from the author's point of view) multilingual dictionaries that can be found on the Internet and that can serve educational purposes well.

    Abstract
Characteristics of terms used in library science literature, extracted from two journals in the field in English and two in Spanish, were studied and analyzed. The particular area chosen was thematic indexing. Each term was placed in its respective knowledge field according to specialized dictionaries and thesauri, as well as experts consulted. Results produced from the research include: terms that differ from the entry in library science dictionaries but whose meaning in that source coincides with dictionaries from other specialties consulted; terms that are represented but don't have the meaning from the other knowledge fields where they emerged; terms without the corresponding definition but that refer to an equivalent entry; terms that are not included, and legally protected terms.

    Abstract
Looks at some of the available online dictionaries to see how they measure up against their print counterparts. Outlines the basic requirements of an online dictionary and reviews the following: the Merriam-Webster; the Hypertext Webster; OneLook Dictionaries; the Newbury House Online Dictionary; the Elza Oxford and Elza Webster; and Australia's MacquarieNet Dictionary. concludes that the Merriam-Webster is easily the best of the current crop of online dictionaries, but none yet is as easy to use as a standard desktop paper dictionary
